Dad's planning to get a car in Jan, budget is 5.5L
City: Ahmedabad

Is the MANZA a better car than the dZire as suggested here ?

How is the engine / gearbox / etc ?

How is the build quality ?

What is the fuel economy of the MANZA and the dZire ?

Responses will be appreciated.

Regards,
abhi

Taking the A.S.S into consideration, the MS DZire is a no-brainer. :)

Except for a FEW exciting inclusions and styling accents, the Manza is just a glorified Indigo.

DZire will be a good option for you .. I am driving DZire petrol for the last 18 months, during this period i have tried Safari, i10, Scorpio and DZire diesel. But undoubtedly the driving pleasure was maximum in DZire petrol, GO for it buddy .. Petrol DZire gives you a mileage of 12-16 kmpl and Diesel DZire gives a mileage of 19-23 kmpl.

I am faced with the same choice - but for me it would definitely be Manza. More car per car. And Tata's service is not as bad as it appears. TBHP has been giving extremely positive reception to the Manza and the initial ownership reviews are also great.

my vote goes for dZire.

Also tata car build quality is not up to mark, after 2-3 year they look like moving tin boxes with all sorts of alignment issues.

well i believe the diesel version of both cars use the same engine.
manza is more spacious and comfortable then the dzire.

I havent seen or experienced the Manza myself but I have heard from a few people that it really gives a lot for the money you pay. Go and check it out in person and if you like what you see it might not be a bad option.

I checked a lot of reviews on the Internet this is what they have to say:

TATA ADVANTAGES

+Looks better (I agree)

+Wayyyy more spacious

+Better engine ( Manza fuel economy > dzire fuel economy, manza uses a fiat engine)

+Better interiors

+Priced similar to the dzire => more car per car

+Standard equipment list is better than the dZire

+Better build quality since the manza is now made in the fiat facility, not as good as the germans but better than the koreans

dZire advantages

+ASS

+Maruti Tag

TATA disadvantages

-TATA tag (everything before this has been a disappointment)

-ASS (disputable, since TATA has joined fiat some say that the ASS has improved)

dZire disadvantages

- All of TATA's advantages

So TE'ers what would you go for ?

Have you seen or driven the Manza to say that?
For that matter, have you driven the Indica Vista to say that??

The Manza is a completely different car from the old Indigo:

- Much better build quality and feel (though not up to the Honda levels yet)
- Most spacious interiors this side of an E-class
- Lots more gadgets than anything before it

Simply put, the Manza is a car which gives you wayyy more value and now better build also. Owners of Tata Indicas will be able to tell you about the A.S.S (I was one, and I can vouch for it) and most critically this:

- The engine is the VGT MJD from the Linea and not the 70bhp one from the dZire. 90bhp diesel is reason enough to get the Manza. Simple.

Cheers!

The dzire has been here for long now...its a brilliant car but one of the most ugliest looking ones...i cant believe they could do this to a hot car like swift...
Manza and dzire both have the same engine...the fiat 1.3 multijet which is there in a number of cars : Vista Quadrajet, dzire diesel, swift diesel , punto, linea...i have driven this engine in multiple variants and trust me its a gem of an engine...
the engine is same but the mapping is different in both cars...add to it the waiting period for dzire (its still there, isn't it?) and seeing that its for your dads use...the looks of manza would go down better...mileage is almost same and i hear the cornering of manza is vastly improved over indica...i would say put your money on manza...and if possibility of chaffuered in sometime, then definitely the manza...gr8 use of space.
cheers

Payne i agree that manza is a gr8 value for money car and am suggesting it over dzire...but just bhp specks are not enough...its driveability and how they develop the power....although the variable geometry gives a more linear power...i somewhat missed the throw (okay, push) of the fixed geometry turbo the swift gave in the linea
and if you check the acceleration specks then both these cars are at par...

My dad drives his car to work, he is a bit apprehensive about drive such a long car (been driving a Santro Xing for 5 years now), he feels that the Manza is ideal for people who employ chauffeur, I am trying to convince him against it.

The Manza has a humongous boot, you have to check this pic

Standard Equipment list

@Nimit: I understand that and am yet to drive an MJD with a VGT in it. :) I've driven that MJD in a Swift and Indica and love the instant response and torque wave it has.

I just see the Manza win in a very critical area when it comes to a family car: rear-seat space. Simple. The Swift was never a winner there and correct me if am wrong but the dZire would not be too.

OT: I hate both cars. :D They're ugly, fat whales designed to suit a typical Indian mindset of MORE. I wish Ford would replace the iKon with something more modern.

1. Yes, I've driven the Indica Vista and the Indigo, haven't got the opportunity to drive the new Manza though.
2. My comment reading "glorified indigo" was stated simply because of its looks, which are subjective but for a car that has all the goodies thrown in, one expects a radical change over a few radical touches here and there.
I've seen quite a few Manzas on the road and they just remind me of the Indigo. :P
3. The comment on their poor a.s.s was based on previous user experiences, not sure if it has improved by leaps and bounds.

This might be a good deal for someone looking at a VFM option and just that.:)

I have seen Manza personally .. and I can say it's hard to believe what TATA has achieved here. The build quality is decent .. but besides that, everything else is just superb. And it looks way better in person than in pics. And no, it doesn't look like old Indigo even with far stretch of imagination.

The car is REALLY spacious .. I mean trying sitting on the rear seats with the front seats moved completely backwards .. and yet you can play cricket in there .. it's a ****in playground :D

And like someone said on TBHP, you can accomdate your in-laws in there. :P

But, trust me, it's not just about space, the car gives any other car in its class a run for its money.

Please note that I haven't driven either of the two, so I can't speak for that part. But almost all people have rated Manza > Dzire.

Here check out this review if you will: Review: Indigo Manza and Chevrolet Cruze

Drive a Manza, you will close this thread right away. It is simply far superior as a family car to the DZire.

please dont get the dzire.. i have 1 and its a pain in the wrong place.. there have been rattling issues since the first service and the workshop guys havent been able to fix it in a good 18 months.

I visited 3 diff. reputed workshops in mumbai for all my 3 services but to no avail.

Go for manza.. much better car.

Come to my office and ill take u on a drive in my colleagues spanking new Manza.

Take it. its good enough for you. I am sure your family...ENTIRE family will appreciate the simply enormous space and it have acceptable ride qlty and build qlty. nothing over the top though.

*Becoz u put dezire against it, They just raped the swift and made dezire. Really bad thing for a car with swift tag in it. if it was any other car i may have said something else.*

yep, Manza is the way to go...one of the most refined car from Tata till date....it better than the DeZire on most counts....just give it a test drive....

yup..... have been followin all the reviews on manza and lookin forward to buyin one in jan..

tata has really given it a lot of effort this time and its totally a different car all from the previous iterations..

they sudnt have put the indigo badge on the manza
