E3 2012 – ZombiU, Zombies and the Wii U

Zombies, in London, on the Wii U, by Ubisoft. Seems the perfect combination of menace and gore doesn’t it?

First named “Killer Freaks from Outer Space”, ZombiU aims to bring gore, flesh, horror, and survival to the Wii U as a launch title. (oh and by the way, both the names are super cool)



Set in London, circa 2012, ZombiU is a Nintendo Wii U exclusive being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier (the same studio behind From Dust, Beyond Good and Evil and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter). It is set to debut later this year as a Wii U launch title, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier! London has been taken over by flesh-eating zombies, and the last remnants of humanity fight their way for survival. Sound’s familiar?

Thankfully, a zombie game is something nobody can put down. After the menacing success of Left 4 Dead, there was much need of a new IP, and to add, Nintendo Wii users hadn’t a chance to play a Zombie game. Well, ZombiU hopes to introduce the genre to Nintendo fans when it releases later this year.

The game is first-person, and makes complete use of the Wii U Gamepad (the tablet), which acts as the “player’s survival kit”.

“The Wii U Game Pad acts as the “player’s ultimate survival kit”, says Ubisoft, containing all the maps, tools, weapons and supplies that players can carry.
A competitive two-player multiplayer mode that puts one player in the role of a “Zombie Master” controlled via the Game Pad screen, and the other as a survivor on the big screen, is also included.
“ZombiU is a dark and daunting game that gamers will love to play again and again,” said Ubisoft producer Guillaume Brunier.
“ZombiU takes advantage of the Wii U’s one of a kind capabilities and will be a launch title that every gamer will want to sink their teeth into.”

This game, among the many others, are of huge significance, which people seem to have overlooked. This is the first time a Nintendo Console will sport such modern and high end graphics, complete with engine driven physics and lighting, HD (or Full HD) output resolution at an undisclosed (30 or 60) frame rate. This is BIG. This is HUGE.
