If you dont need RAID support and wont overclock to exteme levels, But want good performance and upgradability then MSI P965 will be your choice. I am currently using this board and theres a mini review or rather a preview written by me in the Reviews section.

MSI P965 Neo-F Motherboard : A Quick Review

Personally I dont like micro ATX boards as the board layout is cramped leading to ventilation problems and upgradability will be quite low. The Intel boards on the other hand lack overclocking options and performance wise not up to the mark with MSI P965. You can check out some serious reviews of this board by googling.

As I said this is not a board for overclocking as the clock is hard limited to max 333MHz in the BIOS. But people seem to have very easily reached this without any need to change voltages etc. I am currently at 300 x 7 = 2100MHz and it runs pretty cool at these settings. It can go till 333, but I am not doing it at the moment. Also there seems to be some BIOS update in the works thats gonna change the restriction to 500MHz.

There is nothing you can cut here. Thats the bare min C2D rig. Anything less and you wont be happy with the result. If you not not into gaming then may be you can save on the GPU. but for your own sake dont reduce the amout of RAM.

@mknair_prodigy: You probably cant cut down on anything that u mentioned in ur rig details, 'cos if u do that , the point of buying a C2D will negated. Go for the MSI P965- Neo F but dont go for Hynix RAM, rather go for Transcend 'cos the chances of getting a good chip is quite high and many times Hynix rams are fake at least in Delhi, so I dont trust Hynix

Sony DVD-Writer

the DRU 820A is a BenQ 1670 rebadge, There isnt any point in insisting on a sony DVD burner. they are all either LITEONS or BenQ's . most of us flash them with the Liteon/benq firmware as sony rarely releases firmware :p

Get the MSI P965 Neo instead of Asus P5LD2-VMSE. You will not get the most out of your C2D with that 945 board. Also its a matx board, so upgradability will be quite restricted.
