Earphone recommendation

I want to get a earphone, in ear/normal ones/clip ons, whichever will work and fulfill my needs.

They will be used with my iPhone and my office PC (Realtek HD Audio with foobar2000/ASIO4All). I currently am using Sony MDR XD-100 and the iPhone default ones.

Usage is music ONLY.

An important consideration is that, since I will be using these in the office, they should not turn in to a mini concert:rofl: , that is to say the person 2 feet from me should not be able to listen to what I am listening to.

Budget: 2-3k

Please suggest.:)

IMHO for office use stick to supra-aural designs. You get enough "Shaanti" in office, so you dont need noise sealants here, with supra you can hear if someone is talking to you, with in-canals or circumaurals you wont notice even if your cubicalmate is shouting at you.

it is true.....if your boss stops by, he will have to tap u on your shoulder to get your attention :P

Yeah.. thats the same reason I stopped using the in-ears at office.

anyways.. maybe you can look at the lower end sennheisers.

Well I don't mind ear canals, plus my boss is uber cool. I was thinking of CX-500 from ebay. What model of shure would be advisable, if I were to extend my budget.

Another thing I failed to mention was ruggedness, and the MylarOnes aren't exactly rugged.

^^px100 are open...not exactly meant for job time :)
they do sound awesome, but they are not comfortable(to me atleast) in the long run as they sit on the ears

i have the x3i.... build quality not great
and the double flange tips are loose...i lost 1 of them... it fell off somewhere :(
now using the medium tips...they dont fall off luckily :)
i guess the lowest shure model is the se-110 which will be in your budget... people used to complain about lack of bass on the e2c, dont know whether that is still an issue though

i guess the senny in-ears should serve you well

me too lost my double flanges :( nd using the medium ones now.

wouldnt really say that the build quality is 'bad'.. have been using it pretty roughly enough... everyday for almost 6 months now.

For the in ear ones you should probably look at the shure e2-c or the etymotics er6, both of these have superb reviews on the net.

^^they have a few differences though
most people complain about lack of bass on the shure e2c....and they have gone out of production and have been replaced by the se-110

and the etymotics are known to have neutral sound which all people may not like.... generally everyone prefers the slightly warm sounds
@stalker
i use mine quite carefully coz the cables look soo thin :)
i am afraid to snap one of those

i was afraid too :p atleast for the first coupla months. religiously used the carry case nd all..

but now i dont really care.. nd nothings happened. 'as yet' :)

i just bought the reference JBL 410 overheads..super loud with perfect amount of bass and treble .. just the right choice imo..perfect fit for any skull.. i found them amazingly good when paired with iphone.. only hitch is that you will have to get a recessed 3.5mm jack to fit them in iphones (not necessary for the 3G version though).. got them through kmd for 2k ..

^^these on the ear ones never fit me right :)
even when i use around the ear phones, normally they are at ma extension possible
BIG HEAD :P
