Hi all
I have a Sony Ericsson w800i with R1BC002 firmware. I want to mod / apply patches / customize my phone. I need to do it with minimum hassles and also ensure that my phone does not go Kaput if i mess up things. Any pointers in this regard will be appreciated.

PS: I am aware about various tools like FAR manager etc which allow us to look into the FS but i would like to have an easy to use click and do types tool (if it is available) to realize the customization.

XS++

I prefer FAR manager to XS++ since the time I started modding, XS++ wasnt available :P but still both methods are good. I had killed my K750i while accessing FS thru FAR manager, but managed to restore the phone :)

Just remember it is a *MUST* to have a fully charged battery before proceeding.

EDIT : For patching, I prefer taking the firmware, apply patches using glide and then put it on the phone. or just connect using FAR manager and apply the patch. Just remeber, the patches that dont go well, as in they show errors ( fat forward for audio/video for me ) then quicky reverse the patch or else the phone will be dead if you try to turn it on with a faulty patch.

^^there is something called GFLASH, whats that ??

Also by saying that i first extract the firware / download it, you mean i do changes to the firmware itself (i.e. the file on my machine) and then load the firmware in my phone. Now in that case, what if there are incompatible patches ??

Well in my case I has the W800i R1BC002 red CID49 firmware with me. i just patched it and loaded into the phone, didnt take backup of existing firmware

no idea about gflash :)

in case of incompatible patches, you can reverse the patch immediately

^^ After connecting to XS++ check in left side detail window, Here u can find out ur CID no.

I think GFLASH is used to convert firmware files to different but compatible phone flash files using headers files. (I used it to convert W800i firmware files to make it compatible for my K750i)

Use latest version of XS++...

U hav to use compatible patches(In ur case W800i patches) for applying otherwise u'll it will end up in dead phone. Also check for compatibility considering the firmware u r using..

First upgrade ur firmware and then apply patches.

Use FS( Filesystem) flash then MAIN flash and Don't forget to do customization before doing MAIN flash.

XS++.

google for "se-nse forums" ; you'll get LOADS of info there :)

@sumchamp : He alread has a W800i so i think there is no need for him to flash FS and customise :) uneccessary problems.

^^ I mentioned in case he also wanna upgrade to different firmware or recovering from bad patch or flash :).

you need not flash FS incase you are flashing just the main. I flashed mine tio a W800i firmware with a K750i FS and used it for quite a lot of time before I took the whole W800i route.

Yes u can directly apply VKP patches either thru FAR or XS++..

VKP Patches are basically used for providing customizations to ur phone.

Ya so that would i suppose be a better way to do customizations.

So can anyone suggest me where can i find the following things

1. Tutorial on using FAR manager and app-lying vkp patches using that

2. vkp patches for my mobile phone

3. Any thing more that may be required in addition to the above

se-nse is the place to be.

As far as FAR manager goes, you need DB2010 loader, then 2 files, one to enable FAR to access FS and the other to restore it. first flash file with the first file ( forgot name :ashamed: ) then FAR can access FS. after you're done, flash phone with the restore file. all done ;)

for patches, tehre is a separate section where you just select patches and it patches for you. you'll get a red box if the patch fails, then you can "unpatch" the phone.

Do i need to necessarily do these steps ??
I mean i just want to apply patches

Also what is thsi DB2010 loader, 2 files etc
Also what will the restore file do ?

Is it like finalizing everything after i have applied all the requisite patches.

yes all those steps are necessary. try googling around, you';ll find guides that will tell you the exact steps, I just gave an ioverview on how the steps are, plus I havent patched anything on my phone since a long time now :) so have forgotten names of the files, etc.

Yes first u need to apply 1st file using Xs++ and after applying patch apply 2nd file using FAR. already present in FAR manager directory if u hav DB2010 loader. :cool2:

Applying 1st and 2nd files means u r changing back to normal phone state to FAR mode and vice verse.

Ok Ok understood

1st file -> it will enable FAR manager to be used to apply patches -> apply patches -> 2nd file -> will sort of finalise the fone

Now one big question "What if i mess up in between and i want to rollback everything and want my phone in working condition"

Also i found this on se nse

W800 *.vkp Patches - SE-NSE Forums

Also i read some things about ELF. But i think they are not available for my phone's firmware version.

1. Read each and every step carefully before starting off.

2. Download w800i R1BC002 FS and MAIN file from internet.

3. In case u screwed up anything, try flashing ur firmware.

Keep one thing in mind, do flash 2nd(restore) file from FAR else ur phone won't startup.
