EBay has rolled out two new auction tools -- a blogging site and a Wiki -- to give its members new ways to help one another use eBay as well as share information about their experiences.
The eBay Wiki, which can be visited at eBay Wiki (Beta), works like a standard wiki, giving users the ability to learn about specific topics of interest, contribute their expertise for new members, and share insights and opinions.
EBay's new blogging site, which can be found at eBay Blogs, not only provides a way for sellers to share experiences but also gives them another avenue for providing additional information about their products over and above sales information on their auction pages.
Heather Dougherty, a senior analyst with Nielsen//NetRatings, said that launching a blog service and a Wiki makes a lot of sense for eBay, given the large number of eBay member that participate it the company's community forums.
The launch of eBay blogging and Wiki services follows several other significant announcements by the online auction company.
On Monday, eBay executives announced that the firm plans to enter the online advertising market with a service called AdContext. AdContext, much like Google's AdSense program, will promote eBay auctions on other Web sites.
Also, eBay announced this week that it is planning to integrate Skype Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service with eBay, providing a way for sellers to talk with potential buyers.
Lastly, Kaboodle, an online information-sharing service, said it will team up with eBay to create a "social collecting" Web site called MyCollectibles.
The new destination is intended to make it easier to share information about collectible items, such as comics and sports memorabilia.
