Hi,

I will be trying out to develop an ecommerce site just for experimenting. I will be building it from scratch. But confused on selecting CMS. So which CMS should be used ?

FYI, I have a good knowledge of HTML, and somewhat of CMS. So I will be glad if someone from this web development field guide me.

In my opinion, Drupal is the best CMS with an easy learning curve (though most google results will give you an image of the contrary). A wide community that is always ready to help s an added advantage.

I will suggest Zencart/Drupal E-commerce for e-commerce site...however for other purposes...i will recommend Joomla...

Joomla - easy to use, more functional out of the box

Drupal - slightly hard, requires time to set up and learn but very powerful and customizable, light package

I would choose Drupal among the above two because I feel in the long run, it will offer better functionality and customization.

However, for your needs, I think osCommerce would be the perfect choice, although I've never used and don't know much about it.

Hmm..suggestions, keep them coming.

So my options are joomla, drupal, oscommerce. I know that I can easily integrate paypal with it, but for example, how do people integrate CC or net banking, e.g. through ICICI ?

I think you have to get the service from bank...for payment gateway...you can also ask for these services from BillDesk and CCAvenue...and these services won't be free...

CCAvenue charges around 10K initially and then around 7% of the transaction amount as fees.

CCAvenue:: Merchant Account - Accept Online Payments India.

I don't think you'll need to do much of the integration part. Probably, after selecting the option to pay, your customers will be redirected to a custom CCAvenue page to proceed with the payment. I am not sure about this part though. Go through the CCAvenue site for more details.
