Audio Edifier c2/c3 2.1 vs da5000 5.1?

Hello All,

Couple of queries:

1. Need good quality speaker set for mostly music playback, some movies (80-20). Will be connected to music player/phone/laptop outputs etc, no high quality sound card in between.

In this scenario, I am guessing a good 2.1 is better? Also would rather not have the 5.1 wiring all over the place as this is for the living room kind of.

2. For 5.1, I guess the da5000 is a good set.

What about 2.1s? Is the difference between the c2 n c3 worth the price, esp when used with normal audio outputs?

Also, good edifier dealer in bangalore? Need some place where we can listen to the set before buying.

Anything without a good source will sound ohkish... As far as C2 vs C3 goes.. C2 is good but aint as much detailed as the C3. Also the C3 kind of, lacks a bit in Bass.. If budget isn't the constraint, buy Da's - you'd love the setup! but if wiring is ur concern, just opt for C3, afterall who doesn't love a bit clearer sound! ;)
 
A 5.1 for that price will definitely have it's own set of build compromises. As I see it there are two factors here:

1. If movies are your top priortity: A 5.1 would make a world of a difference, with 2 restrictions,you would need a good sound card to redirect the sounds to the 5 channels, and of course get dvd's; the compressed or ripped movies will loose the "surround sound".

2. If music is your priority: A good 2.1 will always do the trick. Music is recorded in two channels and not 5. Again if you have a smart sound card to distribute sound, maybe. But at the end of the day any sound set up, including concerts, are just split up into left and right channels and no more. Most

Another consideration is, if you don't see your room accommodating a text book 5.1 set-up, there's no point in having one. It's also important to have a system that can churn out good mid-tones. Bass always masks the mid's. A prime example is the Altec MX5021 nad the MX6021. The 6021 pumps out a good 100 watts more of power, good right? Not really, the bass becomes way too bass-y.

Things to look out for:
  • Separate frequency response for the tweeters and the bass. (Higher range is better)
  • Signal to noise ratio (higher is better)
  • Length of cables and quality
  • Don't fall for marketing terms like THX certified.
  • If you can, look for the material they use to construct the cones, spring clips and cabinet. I have come across company's that use Kevlar and silk!!
  • Good to have well grounded speakers, not necessarily heavy ones.
 
DA5000 Pro are nice speakers and can also be used in 2.1 mode if required. These have individual controls for front, rear,center and LFE channels making it easy to tweak the sound. I am no audiophile and I don't use these speakers for music, but I don't think they would do any worse than any of the 2.1 speakers that cost less than these.
 
What is your budget? Please mention that.

Looks like the priority is music. Have you considered a stereo setup? You can get a good pair of active 2.0 speakers for 10~12k.
