Guys, forgive me is this seems a silly question but i seriously dont know what will happen when CAS is implemented in bombay..will an internal TV tuner card have any problems in recieving the signal or tune in properly from the set top box ? The same concern goes for Dishtv..have any of u faced any such problem..(ppl who have dishtv at home n use a tv tuner card..)??

u would need to have 2 set-top boxes or else u'll see the same channel on TV as well as PC... But in terms of receiving signals....therez no problem with either TataSky or Hathway's set-top boxes!!

I dont intend to use the signal simultaneously on both the TV and the PC Tv tuner, so tht way, will it be fine if i use it only on my pc? Also, will i have control over channels from my keyboard like i earlier had with cable if i use the signal from the set top box?

no...the setup box will decode the channels and then send the signal.. It means u have to use the set-top box to change the channels!

You won't need a TV Tuner card with a settop box. You just need a vivo gfx card, or a seperate video capture card.

^^ But then recording becomes a problem since vivo gfx cards can't do hardware encoding.Someone correct me if i am wrong.

Anyway to change the channels on the computer you can only do that from the set top box.Maybe a tuner card with an IR blaster may work.

tht means my tv tuner remote will be eating dust from now on..?? :( i used to love it..

Okay but what if i have to record something from the tv tuner??then will i be able to use my PC tv tuner remote or i'll have to manually record from the keyboard? Sucks...i wonder what PC TV tuner companies like Pinnacle n Compro might be doing to address this issue...afterall dth service is the future of tv... then these tv tuner cards will become useless as the decoding will be done by the set top box n not the tuner..the basic functionality of the tv tuner card will become ineffective..:(

yeah in a STB setup( DTH as well as CAS) the tv tuner can only accept aud/vid input....the main functionality wud go to rst mode( except maybe recording thing)....if it had a life, it'd be heaving a sigh of relief...all the tv tuners without S-video in or Component video in wud definitely be useless after CAS is implemented...

Your TV tuner will not work with digital cable (used in setup box). You will continue to recieve analog channels if those are still transmitted. To tune digital cable on your PC you will need DVB-C card with appropriate CAM module

If you have a MCE 2005 compatible tuner like a hauppauge, it comes with the A/V in, and a IR transmitter option. You have to plug the A/V composite in from your STB to the Tuner. and the IR transmitter right in front of the STB.

Attaching the A/V composite to the VIVO in is not correct, it serves no purpose.

Now, when you configure MCE, you have to say, your signal comes through the STB, and then the MCE does the rest. You have to use only one remote, the one which comes with your tuner. I have it working at home, and it works fantastic, the epg works and also recording based on EPG. I am using Hathway, but it should work with Tata SKY.

Best of luck, do let me know if you need any other help.

I have a Hauppage WinTv PVR150 with licenced win mce, also have a IR Blaster(got with the card). I need some info on how to control the stb(TATA SKY) using mce remote.

I just got TataSky conn in my place today. One in the drawing room and 2 in 2 bedrooms. One of which I connected to my pc. I had to use coaxial cable because my tv tuner card only has coax, s-video inputs.

The tv channels get tuned on Channel 68. You change the channel and sound via tata remote. I am able to record tv using my pctv remote. I you want to only watch tv then tata remote is enough.

Picture quality is a little low than what I see on our main 25'' Sony Wega. But that is to be expected as main tv is connected to STB using component input. Still it is far better than ordinary cable tv quality.

Is that component input or composite? Any STB's with component output given by tata sky?

Did you buy that card seperately or it came with the MCE PC? I was interested in getting one (or anyother tuner which is MCE complaint and has an IR blaster).
