I am not sure if this is the right section but what the heck...

I am looking for an Electrical Timer Switch which can be set to On/Off a water pump... I want to install it on the submersible pump which will turn on at a given time & should also switch it off after a pre-specified time period...

Does anybody know anything about it... Price, accuracy & success rate if any... Anybody using it might help...

^ Nah.. I am not from Mumbai.. Just ask your dad what to look for in such a switch if he can help....

Any help is appreciated....

look for timers made by Frontier, cheap and very vfm. used by tonz of people for aquarium lights, solenoids etc. should be for rs.750-800

or have a quick browse of ebay.co.uk, they have exactly what you need, for pumps. you can get units rated upto 15 Amps which would meet your needs. timers can be dial based (twist to set time) or digital ones, which can be programmed for on as well as off, for multiple schedules over a week.

costs: approx 15 pounds or less depending on the features.

^ Actually I need some thing heavey duty which can run a 3 HP submersible motor... I don't think the one you suggested can take such load...

The timer will not be used for a fish tank or controlling lighting fixtures but to control water pump set of the house which draws a good amount of power...

yeye, got that, ebay.co.uk has such items that can easily meet your hi-powered needs. Many people use them abroad anyways. In India they are not popular, and I have not seen them on sale or advt anywhere yet...

@HailStonE, the frontier timer can handle loads of 16A and I've read it can handle power of upto 3.6kW. I got one for my aquarium for just Rs. 600.

You may want to look at a level sensor. It turns on the pump at a specified lower level and turns off the pump once the water reaches a specified level is reached.

I recall seeing this on some Indian companies website. Google.

^^ i also wanted something like this for a long time..never thought any ready made solution existed..except customised ones!...this thread may surely benefit me too!!!
