So i move to a new house and this is what i find------- frequent power failures, low voltage most of the time (especially after 6 pm) and wide voltage fluctuations. The thing is, i plan to get a 40+inch lcd, ps3 and an air conditioner for my room.Already have two computers (desktop and a laptop) in my room.

I believe voltage fluctuations is not good for either tv or ps3.So is there any way to remedy these above mentioned problems and,if so, what all electrical appliances should i purchase to fix these issues?? Which brand should i go for and what's the expected cost??(plan to have 40+inch lcd, ps3, an AC and two computers in my room.)

well u will need a power conditioner, which will take care of voltage problems, but wont solve the power failure and the solution to that is to get a generator or invertor, again invertors that can run a air conditioner will be very expensive.

First get a 3 Phase electricity connection.... that way you can have 3 different phases & can switch if one is down...

well most new houses will have a 3phase connection,if its doesnt have getting 3 phase will mean paying a lot to electricty board, and if its not is own house then its a waste, and u dont need 3 phase to run a air conditioner.
my house has a 2 phase connection running 2x 1 ton ACs without any problem.

1.Go to local electricity office meet with JE/SDO etc of your area, offer them some money to rectify power fluctuation problem. They will upgrade main transformer etc.

Alternate.

2.Use power conditioner voltage regulator for stable voltage.

Well already have 3 phase. Not much help.

Power conditioner ?? Which brand should i go for and what cost ?? Also which inverter should i go for? Already have a yahama inverter.Though it's battery has gone kaput. So which inverter battery should i get?? Doesn't matter if it doesn't run AC.

well a 2kv power conditioners start at 13k like the vertex servo based invertor or u can also just buy a V guard digital stabilizer Products prices starts from approx Rs2500 for a 340watts capacity to aprox Rs6000 for a 1340watts,these stabilizers will give a constant voltage of 220v to 230v http://www.vguard.in/imgUpload/pdf/12/Digital_Stabilizer.pdfunlike some other v guard stabilizers that gives voltages as high as 270 volts.

^^ In that case you can complain to the Electricity office that you are not getting proper voltage... It helps if you know anybody personally or through any contact...

Its their responsibility to provide you with proper voltage... Especially if its a 3 phase connection. I don't see why they can't 'coz it uses a different transformer/service line to supply to 3 phase rather than with single phase connection which always gets overloaded....

Sorry for being a noob but is that V guard digital stabilizer for the whole room or for a single equipment like lcd tv ??

Are you referring to this product?? Universal Electronics - Home

Does it act an inverter cum stabilizer ??

well the V guard is just for electronic/electrical devices for a max of 1340watts like u can connect a 40inch lcd,ps3,and a PC.

yes i was referring that Vertex the one with LED information display, and NO it does not act as a invertor.

well if ur house has individual MCB(kinda like main switch) for each room, then u can connect a power conditioner for the entire room or get a 6kv and above power conditioner for the entire house.

Can't we connect the PS3's to our PC UPS , to save it from voltage fluctuations.Connecting AC's and TV's , you will need a voltage stabilizer.

well it depends on which ups u use for eg when u connect a xbox 360 to a HP 800va UPS there is an error when ever the power goes off.

I have a Microtek 800 VA UPS , which runs 5mins. of gaming with a 8800GTX after power cuts , although the power problem in Delhi has improved a lot.

We don't want to run the PS3 or Xbox 360 during power cuts but to save it voltage fluctuations.Does anybody use a UPS with their consoles ??

^ ^ Me too im using a smart ups 2200 uxi or something, spent like some 37K odd including 4 26AH batteries, about an hour and 50 mins of back up. Voltage gets regulated by the UPS.
Im trying to go up a notch, anyone here has set up a solar panel or some sort of gen (which runs on diesel) with their ups? Im trying to look into it, but research shows that sun-power is expensive and inefficient =(

^well the apc smart ups 1000 uxi retails for 12000 to 13000 and is similar to the 2200 uxi ,but with less capacity ,the problem is those expensive batteries.
