Currentl I am using my 19" viewsonin lcd with my ps2 with the help of a external tv tunner box.the output quality is very bad.finally,I am planning to buy a 21" CRT TV to plugging my PS2 with component cable.I am considering Sony KV-HG21M80/H which has component in in rear. Somewhere I read that only in HDTV progressive scan can be enebled using component cable.. Sony KV-HG21M80/H-> I hope this is a SDTV, can I use component cable with my ps2 in this tv and get the progressive scan for best results

I have the same television & AFAIK it doesn't support Progressive scan feature(not that I know of).But even without the component cables the clarity is stunning. That's all I can comment on.:)

You can check this link out: Progressive scan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Progressive Scan is a mode of removing motion blur & minor flickering arising in interlaced display.Usually images look pretty sharp & crisp when progressive scan is enabled. This is mainly done via component cables for attaining these results. You must bear in mind that the TV should support progressive scanning along with the game. Not all games support progressive scan.People with HTDV's usually enable this mode for getting better displays on their screens compared to the regular CRT counterparts.

If i ain't wrong u have posted the same thing on T2 forums,

BTW i own an Onida T.V. and it has Component in and i also own a component cable for the ps2,

still PS can't be enabled for me,

maybe it'll be the same for you,

I would recommend a 26" LCD TV (probably Samsung),

It will allow PS AFAIK,

It costs around 24k in the market,

I bought my Cable for Rs. 200 and it ain't the original Sony one,

hope my post helps incase you really need it

26"lcd is out of mu budget//as i read in some article PS2 is meant for normal Tv,,its not best suited for LCD//I am wondering what will be the quality of image if i connect the ps2 to a normal crt tv with component cable without PP..will it be possible??if yes,,does the quality of picture/color will be better thn normal AV connection

It should be much better than composite AV cables for sure.Without PS I don't think it should matter that much.

atleast the color reproduction in rgb should be better thn av without PP//PP only enhance the smoothness n lessen the flickering

The flickering isn't visible in much games except for God of War I & II which has heavy flickering & tearing issues.Apart from that have rarely noticed any flickering in any games.Might as well get the cable & try it out.;)

hmm,,,i have played GOW in my 19"lcd with the external tv tunner..the worst part is the color bleeding, image stretching (since my lcd is widescreen),washout look( due to less contrast ration of lcd in compare to CRT) and image artifacts,,when i see the same visuals in the 25" tv of the local ps2 game vendors,,i really amazed with the sharpness of the picture quality,,,today i have visited croma n see sony, samsung,lg,philips, sansui tvs,,what i noticed that,,SONY has the highest contrast n shows more color except black,,however samsung /LG/philips has a comparitivly fade color but good at differentiaing BLACK...now i m confused which one should i buy..
1)samsung-ultra slimline-8k
2)lg slimline-9k
3)sony conventional tube-10.5 k

Sony.Without a shadow of a doubt. The best contrast reproduction & picture clarity.I got the above mentioned model for a discounted rate of 8.5k from Rahul Electronics. Both Sony Mony,Croma & Vijay sales quoted it at around 10.5k.

I'm not sure of LG (I hate it as a brand) but Samsung's newer model pose better picture quality as compared to the older ones. But then again it fails in comparison to Sony's contrast quality & sharpness..:)
