Graphic Cards Entry level GPU

Hi guys,

My friends card conked off and he needs to buy an entry level GPU to get his comp running. His max budget is 3.5k, non-extendable (was originally 3k, i forced him to put in 500 bucks more :p). So please suggest accordingly. Nvidia, Ati doesnt matter...any one of them will do. He has no idea about either, and i prefer ati (not a fanboi, have used both :)). He's gonna buy it tomm so plz suggest quickly, he needs to get it up and running urgently. Thx! :D
 
A 9500GT/HD5550 (Or even the HD4650 for that matter) should do it then. If he can get a 9600GSO, it would be the best option.
 
Any idea about the exact cost of these cards? Especially the 9600 GSO and the HD 4650? Also in case of Ati, Sapphire's a given but if he goes for Nvidia, which manufacturer should he go for? I myself have an XFX but ofcourse I wouldn't recommend that to him considering the ever popular Rashi. Zotac?
