I find it interesting how people love Steam, yet hate DRM in all forms.... Steam is a crude form of DRM (as are just about all network game related technologies nowadays).

I think the main reason people don't mind embracing Steam is because people don't usually share games anymore (unlike music), specially since they all require some sort of serial key to play online.
And in this scenario, Steam acts as their very own 'box of games'. One that can never get lost, scattered and will always stay organised and up-to-date.

Music and movies, people still want to be able to share them with friends and relatives.

People don't share games anymore because they can't. The games requirement that you use a CD, online content access validation, blah blah is DRM. Period. But you accept it.

I see the same thing in another domain - when the RIAA and MPAA scream "Downloads are killing us!" geeks say "go to hell". And when game companies complain about piracy, geeks nod their heads and express their symapthies....

Frankly I don't give a rats a$$ since I don't listen to much music, and don't play video games, and don't watch all those many movies.

^but with steam, the games are locked to an account, not a machine, this IMO is the main reason people do not mind it as much as music DRM, they can play their games anywhere, not just the PC they downloaded it on.

I like steam bcoz i dont have to carry dont have to carry dvds anymore and the freedom to play on any PC..
before steam the only original game i ever bought was Die by the sword way back in 1999 or 2000 i guess but the cd got scratched after a few months and couldnt play it again...and i never bought another original game again untill steam came...
