Epson unveils 'Windows Vista Capable' PC

It's official - the blurry 'Windows Vista-capable' logo that appeared on the web last week is real, as Epson demonstrated today when it launched a desktop system for the Japanese market that conforms to the certification process centred on Microsoft's next generation of Windows.

The machine in question is the Endeavour Pro 3500.

Specs :
  • Intel's 3GHz Pentium 4 630
  • Intel's 975X chipset
  • Nvidia's GeForce 6600 GT graphics chip
  • 512MB of DDR 2 SDRAM
  • 80GB hard driveo
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Six USB 2.0 ports
  • Pair of PCI Express x16 slots and two x1 connectors.
Epson said the 3500 contains sufficient horsepower to run Windows Vista Home Basic Edition, one of the many forms the new OS will adopt.

Hitachi releases 500GB hard drives

The Deskstar 7K400 - this drive holds 400GB.

HITACHI Global Storage said that it has released 500GB hard drives with 3Gb/s Serial ATA interfaces.

The Deskstar T7K500 and 7K160 use a combination of platters at 160GB a throw to produce the high capacities.

That means Hitachi will offer densities of 500GB, 400GB, 320GB and 250GB with 8.5 ms average seek time, and for S-ATA drives a 16/8MB data buffer. No pricing is available yet.
