Error Applying Security setting

I had restricted the accessibility of some folders to admins in windows 7 ultimate, however after formatting i no longer have access to those folders.
I have changed the access to everyone and my account in folder->Properties->security->advanced->owner. Then I get an error that there has been an error applying the security settings to the concerned file. If click continue then the lock icon on the sub folders disappear on some but even then I cant access a single file.
Please help me out im totally frustrated trying accessing the files.
 
Remove inheritance(parent level inheritance) of affected folders first, and apply the permission on its parent folder and enable inheritance (child object's permissn replace)on that one. Will do the job.
 
tried it already with that i was able to view the contents at least

Got a work around i copied all the contents of the folder to an another folder and deleted the original folder. This gave me unrestricted access to the all the copied contents
Cheers !!!

Man that folder was of 51gigs :O
