Considering the hardware scene in India, 8.5k is perfectly justified :D Of course, it wouldn't hurt if you could get it from abroad :P However, I believe the EMU is better for analog outputs. And it costs 6635 @itdepot.

zhop i think the emu isnt available at itdepot tried to get one last time but when saiyan checked it wasnt available.

I got my Audiophile 2496 about 2 years back for around Rs. 4500. Touchwood, till now it's the only part of my 'rig' that hasn't gone kaput. I love this card. I listen to a lot of electronic Music and sound quality is awesome. This is the best bang for the buck. If you want 'better' sound.. spend 6 times the amount and get yourself an RME :P

got extrememusic instead :) got to test it at a friends place, esi juli@s box at the shop was all worn out and old and he has only 1 piece :( ...

music on the x-fi :p is a lot better than onboard

an·ti·cli·max [an-ti-klahy-maks] –noun

1. an event, conclusion, statement, etc., that is far less important, powerful, or striking than expected.
2. a descent in power, quality, dignity, etc.; a disappointing, weak, or inglorious conclusion: After serving as President, he may find life in retirement an anticlimax.
3. a noticeable or ludicrous descent from lofty ideas or expressions to banalities or commonplace remarks: We were amused by the anticlimax of the company's motto: “For God, for country, and for Acme Gasworks.”
But anyways, congrats :D

Don't want to put a damper on your purchase, but congrats on selecting a soundcard based on the condition of the box.

Just to put it into perspective, I bought a used Delta 66 for 10K about 3 years back, and if I had to select it on the basis of the box, I would never have bought it.

I would think that for 30% more cost than that X-fi, you lost about 60% performance. With an MX5021 maybe you cannot tell that difference in source, once you upgrade you can tell the difference between sources quite easily.

In the <10K category, the Juli@ is the best card for both analog and digital outputs, better than the 0404 (which is a cheaper card) and the 2496. Its digital output is as good as any <30K card, it is basicaly the same as the excellent Lynx22.

Anyway, enjoy your new card.

Addendum: Just noticed the bulk of your listening is MP3. Which means the X-fi is probably good enough actually, there's anyway not enough resolution in the music to justify the Juli@ or other expensive cards. You could maybe have gotten away with even cheaper solutions.

^^for listenin to mp3s atleast I dont xpect juliet to sound 60% better ,mabe and mostly it will 5-10% at most be better than xtrememusic

taking of cheaper solutions I did try xtreme audio which is one of the audigy based cards but named x-fi, I did not notice much improvement [was little bit overly bassy instead]with mx5021's.

Will select on the basis of product not the box :) next time
