I have an HP dx2700 PC at home , recently its PSU got kaput so i sent it for servicing and while it was gone , i got an MTNL triband connection which i was using on my laptop . Now when i tried connecting it to the computer it doesnt respond . There is no light on the CAT5 cable while the same cable and same modem work on my laptop

I have installed the Networking Drivers from the hp site but i doubt that it is a hardware problem since there is no light on the cable ? Also are there different types of cables or something ?

I went to the BIOS and there onboard LAN was enabled

the second option is that i use it via the USB port but i dont have the driver CD , it work automatically in linux but not in windows

Any Suggestions ?

Do the LED's on the Network card blink when you connect your modem ? I am afraid it appears to be a case of a problem with the onboard NIC .

Regarding the question you asked, there are two types of cables (Straight-through and Crossover) and are used in different cases. You'd need a straight through cable (which you'd be using with your laptop) .

Try resetting your bios and see if it helps.

And if everything fails just download this USB deiver from Calcuttatelephones.com ..It should work since the Modem is apparently the same that you're talking about.

Get the driver here (be sure that it's your modem though) :

No , the light doesnt blink on connecting the network cable , so its dead i guess ?

I have tried resetting the BIOS still no avail

and about the USB modem , something strange happens , it has MT882 written on it but the router page and everything else is different from the default MT882 which BSNL/MTNL gives . THe box just says ADSL2+ modem , even the user guide pdf

the drivers there and the ones on the MTNL site for huawei dont work with it

i even managed to find the CD which came with it but even the drivers in it dont get installed , it says driver installation failed when i right click on the inf and select install
