Everything is a rather unusual desktop search tool that I came across and thought i can share with TE folks.

"Everything" only uses file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build it's database. best of all it doesnt index your file, it just read the master file table to use it as an index.

The search speed is blisteringly fast. Enzoi hyeah:

btw, also check out cathy cathy link

cathy is not exactly designed for searching the comp but rather as a file catalog.

it does file search based on file name same as everything. only it doesnt update the index on its own.

it has a command line version which can update the index in background. i schedule that to run every 4 hours which gives me a perfect file search utility.

not great to look at, but blazing fast searches. for external hdd search, it is a great tool.

Nope it will only locate files and folders on local NTFS volumes.
