Exactly, its kinda surprising ppl don't get that.

Right, and given that members of this site have the ability to pull 10s if not more of GBs, for the admins, a weekly (if not daily) backup of the database ought not to have posed a problem.

You can't always prevent the site from being hacked but its not asking too much to least be able to restore from a previous snapshot.

Most of these Desi sites have a ploy to get money from people. Its either this or perennial hardware upgrades.

I know a few Desi sites admins who collect donations then leave for vacations.

I agree, I was moderator of warez site named DesiHackers which is no more now because of same reason, Database damage :bleh:. The admins were asking for donations to pay Server bills blah blah.. and after getting enough money they used get new things for their own..

In my presence of 7 months as a moderator there, they were collecting about 500-600$/month (admins were just 2), divide it into each other.. Throw some money to moderators and staff members and then enjoy.. The server they were using was also very very cheap, members knew nothing :P

^^agreeed

but exdesi has been there since 4-5 years, they have never done anything like that before.

it was a site of great repute!!

y wud they do that so suddenly!!

anyways i dont know

its down and i cant download stuff from that site as of now

Maybe they got the idea to pull the online equivalent of an insurance scam.

Unless someone has anything else to say things look fishy here :(

Being an experienced Linux Server Admin, All I can say is the server costs projected by them are just way too bloated. Why does only the Admin, The OWNER of tracker keep track of the cash in flow and no one else ?!

When the greatest torrent site ThePirateBay can be restored so easily and moved easily and also backed up easily, The desi site is way to easy.

Daily Off site backup won't cost a lot. Definitely never greater then 50 USD.

^you are right. I have several years experience in running torrent sites. The DB of Exdesi won't be much. It won't cost them anything to take daily backups.

I feel this is to make money by scaring the members.
