I need to know if anyone here has any experience with any placement agencies for getting a job in overseas countries
How does one select a good agency ? Any place where their ratings or honest reviews available ?
If one does not want to go through an agency then how to proceed ?

Why not update your profile on job portals and mention that your are looking for a job change in abroad. You'll receive similar job offers in inbox and calls as well. Mostly the opening can be found in US/UK and Singapore regions.

There are multinational placement agencies which are very big. They mostly serve for Senior & Top level candidates & MNC companies only.
Michael Page is one example. For middle level sadly, Linkedin & keeping profile updated on job sites is what you can do.

One trick I learned over the years is keep looking for careers pages of dream companies. When you see a suitable job opening internationally, you can apply with a stellar cover letter and resume suited to that company. Lot of work involved and it works rarely.

But the 1 time it works, you might land up with an oversees job.

Not for oversea jobs but here itself for MNCs having local setup, I have kept an eye regularly in their careers section since past couple of years but I will say that only 2-3 of 10 cos. actually list their current openings and rest all are stale and expired jobs. Thus they dont care to update their careers section.

Also, even if they have those opening, they wont respond you even after repetitive attempts unless may be you have some referral person in that co.

And some job openings are spread only through word of mouth method rather than listing it online.
