Exporting from Blogspot?

Can we export posts and comments from blogspot account?

First, I want to backup my blog, which is a kinda like an online notebook for my certification preps.

Second,I want to move the data from blogspot to a customized joomla/similar platform.

I read about how (don't know clearly) the data can be exported as atom feeds and then imported by customized code for platform of our choice.

Has anyone done it in a clean way before?
