hey guys cn ya tell me which is da best usb external drive in range of 2.5-3.5k
40gb is wt i need
currently i have like an old ide 7200 rpm samsung 40gb drive on which ive put an external casing (realy cheap n stupid:ashamed: ) point is portability is compramised as i always need an power outlet:mad:
i just need smthing more relible ive heard frm dealers we cn get an 80 gb usb hd
for around 3k but frm a company iv nt heard of! so i dun thing dat wud be a rite .compramising da quality
ok lets presume if i find one usb HD wt format shud i use on it FAT or NTFS
FAT is bakward compatible but ntfs is not(i mean win 98 wala panga!)
 
Get a 80GB Hitachi notebook drive plus a external casing, should cost you around 4/4.5k ... If you are gonna use it mostly on Win2k or WinXP then use NTFS...if you're gonna connect it to Win98 systems too then use FAT
 
Keep ur External HDD in FAT, but keep ur Internal HDD NTFS, datz what i'm also doin....for more details on NTFS & FAT32 advantages n disadvantages just type NTFS in the search box u'll come across plenty of threads in here that will help u understand.....its gonna help u a lot coz u can use it on even Win98 system......remember one more things if ur NTFS HDD crashes chances of data recovery are very remote. Install ur OS n softies on ur Internal NTFS HDD while all the files u wanna store keep it on ur external HDD (FAT32)....u might experience slow data transfer rates if u r copyin from HDDs of different file formats
 
my friend got 80gb hitachi notebook drive and a transcend(dont know if its fake) casing for 4k. the box has two usb cables one for data+power and another one power incase the first one is not enough.

Vantec AVOX 100 Laptop HDD + Media Playback Casing Rs 4750 [But thats out of question as u want only a HDD Casing + HDD]

Vantec Nexstar 3 2.5inch laptop hdd casing Rs 1400

Hitachi Travel Star 40GB Laptop HDD Rs 2750

Segate Momentus 40GB Laptop HDD Rs 2750

I wud suggest you a Zippy Sata pata casing + a 80GB Sata or IDE Hdd.
