Linux External HDD compatability with Ubuntu??

I'm planning on buying a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB external HDD. I'd like to know whether it'll have any compatibility issues with Ubuntu. As in can I directly plug it in the USB port and start using it or do I have to reformat it to FAT 32 or so?

On a side note, what would be better? the WD MyBook 500gb or the FreeAgent?

I have a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB External HDD. It works perfectly with Ubuntu. No problem at all.

Yes. Every portable HDD, Media Cards and Flash drives get detected easily and works out of the box thanks to kernel 2.6.2x.x
