Hi friends,

My system is eating about 230 watts of electricity and for some months, I am getting too much heavy electricity bills. This system was used only for watching TV, downloading some latest released movies, and some old games like AOE3, NFSII.

For downloading thing, I am thinking of ATOM board and switching to current system for playing games via KVM switch.

Also, I need to buy an External TV Tuner Box to view it on my 15" monitor and later External TV Tuner will be on used on TFT when I upgrade to it but not too soon (when 15" monitor dies).

My budget for the External TV Tuner Box is maximum Rs. 2000.

Please suggest me a best model between this range which can also be later used on TFT monitors.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.:)

I am using Tech-com LCD TV tuner, which is real good VFM for its price

^there are two types of "external TV tuners"

Set top box and TV tuners

With Set top box u dont need PC to watch movies/programs. but u cant record.

External tv tuners-they are more of less like internal ones with less features, they need a pc to record/watch

Please tell me its price how much I have to spend on it?

Is there any better External TV tuner box which can attached to CRT as well as TFT monitors?

Want to buy as soon as possible?

these are called set top boxes. Set top boxes allow only content viewing, they cant record content.(Its a naming gimmick i guess by manufacturers or they are ignorant)

TV tuners neeed PC to record.

(however there are some exceptions where standalone set top box comes with hard disk which record into them)

OT- if u need a external TV tuner to record, PC is necessary.
Compromate, leadtek, pixelview are good brands....

Yes, external tv tuner cards require only monitor to work. I am using Umax Tvision external tv tuner card. It works even if my CPU is off. I got it for 1.7 k. Its for LCD's.

^^ Thanks for the info Gowtham :)

whatever naming mumbo-jumbo is, OPs requirement was specifically to watch TV without PC and only monitor
Techcom fits his need pretty well

do not go for nay cheapo external tv tuner cards. If you do not need recording and further compatibility with LCD monitor us also required, I think avermedia avertv box genie is your best bet. Available for around 2k.

Brought AverMedia AverTV Box Genie 1 M075 TV Tuner Box and it is working on my 15" monitor as well as 17 inch monitor, also gives out component video to run on Sony 29" TV video through video in, and also supporting TFT monitors, and also it is having video audio in to run DVD player video/audio directly on the monitor.

Great thing.:hap2::D:clap:

robertjohn,

If you are from Mumbai, you can collect TechCom tuners for free and test it.

I have two different models lying with me without any use since remote looks damaged...

If someone else wants it, pm me...

prole he already bought the external tv tuner btw how was u r experience with tech com tv tuners ? thanks in advance i am to deicide on one

they perform average, but if you have clean signals, works good. Used it for above an year without any problem. Remote of my piece went damaged after falling down several times, thats all.

I will recommend it as a stand-by / cheap solution for use LCD of your existing PC.

Heard Gadmei is also good, though not used till date.
