Hi,

Want to buy an external USB drive, mainly for the purpose of:

1. Backups
2. Regular read/write use for songs/video and other content.

Capacity : 300-500 GB is sufficient, but if 1 TB is more VFM and cheaper (per GB), that is fine too. Main thing is that it is for regular use, and not just write once/archival purpose.

Any suggestions for a good VFM drive ? Is the Freeagent the best, or are there any other options available ?

^^

Would like to have one without an external power supply. Any cons of not having ext. supply ?

Also, a good place to buy hard drives quickly and at a competitive price ? In Bangalore, physical/online both store types are fine.

Thanks !

Decided to go for a 320GB Ext hard disk. Which is better - Seagate or WD ?

Seagate provides 5 yrs of warranty v/s WD 3 yrs, but the focus would be on reliability - too many posts about Seagate failing, very less for WD. Is this across products and applicable for the External Drives too ?

I got Moserbaer Sata Ext HD 360 GB with 5 yr warranty from SP Rd for Rs3224. I think it can be bargained to 3000 or less. It looks good and slim. Did not hear much reviews about it yet, so you want to consider.
