F.E.A.R. bringing my 6600GT to its knees

I just downloaded the F.E.A.R. single player demo and installed it. This game is bringing my 6600GT to its knees. I just played the initial sequence and the average FPS is about 20, with a low of 11-12 and a high of 28-30. Of course, I set everything to "Maximum", but no AA or AF and a resolution of 1024x768.

The game looks sweet and I am planning to put up a short review once I play through.

How about you guys? Anyone seeing similar frame rates?
 
Yes same thiing with hi-end cards like x800xl and 6800GT and 9800pro's even. I averaged around 40Fps on autodetect (Some settings on high and no aa and af) . The retail is said to be tweaked to in order to run on low-end hardware as well.
 
An update on this thread. I was earlier running the 76.45 WHQL and yesterday I installed the Zer0Point 81.84 drivers.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the frame rate jump from an average 20 on 76.45 to a much more playable 30 FPS! Ah, I will stick with this driver for some time I guess. Thankfully, none of the problems others seem to be facing with this driver (at least the non-modded nVidia beta set) are visible on my system.

Just Uncheck soft shadows and also set textures to medium , rest leave @ max @ 1024 and then gaming is much easier on the 6600GT.
 
i get 80FPS max on my OC 6600GT MSI core 590 mem1200.
and minimum 25FPS and AVG around 50 1024x768 4xAA, 4xAF on 2XAA 5FPS more
 
^^ u r getting pretty good FPS 6600GT on steroids ...... my GTX used to give me 60-70 Fps avg with maxed out setting @ 1280x960 :D .....
 
^^ Yea he is great overclocker alright ! Cuz all other major websites are getting around 20fps avg with all settings maxed out, softshadows off and 4xaa. Maybe he is using low/med settings.



 
Well i used the the tool or whatever it is in the game that determines the best settings for my card and was able to play on my monsterously powerful 6200TC...lol
 
^^ it worked on 6200 .... thats nice coz one of fren tried it on his 6200 and said he had to wait forever for the game to start and finally he uninstalled the game ....

It brings even my x800xl to its knees.

Everything Maxed out, 1024*768, Textures at Medium and SoftShadows off, and Dynamic Lighitng on.

Average of 40FPS. Highs at around 50. Lows at around 25-30.
 
For a 6600GT User the ideal setting for playing Fear would be 1024 with AA and Softshadows off...

Remember Softshadows make a hell lot of difference :)
 
FEAR gives me 57FPS at stock and 64fps overclocked on my x800xt @1024 with 4xAA,8xAF and 44fps on my 6800ultra lappy in the built in timedemo. This is with everything at max settings other than soft shadows. There's no way this d00d is getting 50fps with 4xAA in the timedemo at 1024 using a 6600GT.
