Graphic Cards F.E.A.R thread

Thought I might do the needful.

Any one got it to run at high textures on 'only' 1GB of ram and a 128mb card?

Seems to be a trend with newer games, same situation with BF2-everything can be maxed out except textures.

Guess 256mb vram is fast becoming necessary.

PS:I had mentioned the game being a memory hog in my first post in the 'F.E.A.R. demo' thread,so B_R's comments were totally uncalled for.:bleh:

might be better to wait for the full version , i think doom or somegame stuttered a lot in the demo stage

OT:
B_R :Abuse ur mod powers to the fullest dude.Close a thread, open to post a flame and then close it again,if u r game open that thread and I'll reply.

Yeah like i mentioned, demos come with this tag (atleast most of them) This game is still in progress and doesnt represent the final quality and performance of the game. So i bet the game should be polished and refined in the retail version. If that doesnt happen i am afraid this game won't find a lot of audience. ;)

@Ut: mate i am not even the mod of that section to be abusing the rights there .

how about using the pm system

dunno but i know the final version of both doom and hl2 worked fine at 1024*768 with medium to high settings which is what matters

BTW,it wasn't DOOM3 that stuttered it was, well ,HL2.(the FanATic game, if u may allow me to call it that)
Nah man it was the doom 3 demo which stuttered. The hl2 demo came well after the retail version of hl2 ;) Neways this isnt about doom 3 or hl2. Thing is no one should consider demo performance as the final one. I remember Bf2 demo stuttered badly while the retail version with the patch applied does quite well on even 512Mb ram.

Except that HL2 required about a GB of updates on crappy steam to get there.Since F.E.A.R too is a VU game, hope they don't steam-cook it again, making it hard to swallow...

Doom3's retail 1.0 version worked like a charm,unlike HL2 which stuttered like a pig(well documented).

B_R:I have a video posted on a BB by the frustated owner of an X800XT running HL2 1.0 titled 'HL2_stutter'.I can post it if u guys want that.;)

Lol are we discussing Fear and its stuttering problems ? or sumthng else..........Too much OT. SO this will be my last OT post :|

I don't think its OT,its about the growing and perhaps insane ram usage of modern FPS games(a gig not enuf!) and F.E.A.R is one such game.In beta form it used to need 2GB of ram.

Fear stutters at high textures with 1gb ram? ****all coding, textures aren't sharp enough to jusfity that.
Farcry had textures twice as sharp as this and ran fine at high textures with just 512mb ram.

The multiplayer demo of fear was even worse performance wise and it's been cleaned a lot since then, so hopefully the final game will be better.

Bladerunner you are talking about the doom3 e3 leak, that stuttered a lot.
Undertaker the stuttering in hl2 has nothing to do with system or video ram, it's the sound that stutters. There is no hdd activity during those stutters.

No, 1 GB is exactly what's need to run FEAR at maximum settings. On my 128 MB 9800 pro and a gig of memory I get no stuttering, due to HDD activity, in game. But YES I do get GPU-dependency.
In any case, the game definitely does impress. But I don't think the looks are worth the resultant performance.

Saumil:To the contrary there a lot of stutters accompanied by HDD activity in HL2 and even when enabling the sound_async option ,they don't go away.
(this the case for the ver 1.0 ,its now fixed if u have the steam copy)
BTW,try enabling 'very high' everything in far cry and setting the agp aperture to less than 128mb,see what happens.Ample proof to demonstrate that 128mb is simply not enough anymore.

Which version ?? Cause the latest version 1.32 (iirc) fixes all that. I was playing on with the settings set to all high and aperture size was around 64Mb.

Yes but farcry 'very high' actually gives you 'very high'.
The doom retexturing project has textures as sharp as fear.

Limiting agp aperture is moot, if you are limiting memory access then performance drops are to be expected.
Even so I have seen people running farcry smoothly at ultra high details at 1600x1200 2x/4x aa with 1gb system ram and 128mb vram.

Not bad at all since aa at that high a resolution + the ultra high textures must be hogging all the video memory.
128mb is just fine for now, more is good but definitely not a must-have.
