Facebook Acquires Face.com Face-Recognition Company
Facebook has officially announced that it has acquired Face.com software company for an undisclosed amount . Facebook uses its facial-recognition technology already to recognize faces in pictures to suggest auto-tags , now the social networking site owns it .
In a statement to AllThingsD, Facebook said that "this transaction simply brings a world-class team and a long-time technology vendor in house."
Multiple sources told TechCrunch that the deal cost Facebook about $100 million and its expected to close in the coming weeks .
Face.com blog says that it will continue to support the developer community .
