Source - The Daily Maverick :: Facebook founder to face death penalty in Pakistan?

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of social networking megasite Facebook, may not ever have intended taking a holiday in Pakistan, but if he did now would not be the time. The country’s courts are investigating him on anti-blasphemy charges – and a guilty verdict carries the ultimate penalty.

The more publicity this useless law gets the better.

First of all pakistan doesn't deserve internet connectivity.

They are planning to block facebook, youtube, yahoo, amazon and couple of other top sites!

I will be happy if all the top website admins voluntarily block pak from accessing their sites...this way pak cannot block them and we don't have to create such threads every now and then..

The case is about punishing the owner for something his users did. A while back didn't we have something similar to this here when the eBay manager in India got locked up temporarily when some one put up some porn for sale ?

Its not the penalty that counts but the liability the owner faces if any of their users does something. I not sure i Agree with the law here

^^It was with bazee.com which now is ebay.in. IIRC the owner was arrested too..

Yes, it was coz DPS sex scandal was made in to a CD and was sold on that site!

LOL if facebook owners want......with their clout they can make Pak or even Indian Govt face US Federal fire

Equivalent to taking Remington/Winchester to court. Quite sad to see Pakistan behaving like this, again proving to the world that they are a fanatic nation.

I also don't totally agree with the law here, but the top police guy in Delhi that time, forgotten his name, said that if tomorrow someone successfully sells off an AK-47 on his website, who is to blame? Some liability has to be there.

Exactly, does it matter whether the shooter hits a member of the public or someone important ?

Not at all.

This is why i think the penalty isn't relevant, its the fact that such a law exists in the first place
