But that is the thing, there aren't a hundred posts saying "Apple is awesome". People don't bother posting futile nonconstructive things like that.

Actually you'll be surprised how many posts are indeed that way

Its just that the mods stumble upon them first and delete them.

If people are enthusiastic enough to type out 1 liners, I highly doubt someone with a well thought out opinion will be held back to simply like someone else's post. It won't have that much of an effect, but on the contrary might encourage the silent lurker types who aren't good with responses to show their opinion in a way.

In any case pay no attention to the hearts or any of that, those will obviously be tweaked for something more sensible, you just need to pay heed to the concept.

Can there be an icon on permanent basis instead of appearing only on hovering ?

most people wont even notice it otherwise.
also the thumbs-up from same monochrome icon set as previous heart would look better. Not complaining though

Theres a 'Like' text permanently in all posts.

I guess it may eventually be replaced with a button or icon.

Don't worry about the finishing touches, they should be done once the testing is done.

I thought the same about the thumbs-up icon, but then again some colour aint bad either.

The major problem I face is..

It indicates in the notification area.
Due course we may ignore it, when an important PM is arriving at our inbox

ps: In case of pm's, you have the option to get a popup informing you when you got the pm.

Another convenience of the like button i find is that you can use it when you are too lazy to post.
