Facebook has added voice messaging support to its Messenger app for Android and iOS.

Users can send voice messages to contacts by tapping the + icon and then tapping and holding down the record button. On releasing the button, the recorded message wll be sent to the recipient.

Facebook is also testing Voice over Internet Protocol ( VoIP ) feature in Canada for iPhone users, which is expected to released worldwide if successful. This seems to be an attempt to take on Skype and Google Voice by Facebook.

Facebook Messenger is available as a stand-alone app for iOS and Android. To broaden its user base, last month Facebook opened the Messenger app to non-Facebook users also using only a name and mobile number.
