Facing a Problem with Sify Broadband

Hi Guys,

I recently shifted to a new colony and have taken the sify broadband connection. Now at my previous place I had the Sify connection itself and it worked at 100 Full Duplex without any hassles. And also when I was in college, I was connected to the LAN at 100 Full duplex. And it always worked fine.

But now in this colony, i just don't get any ping at 100 Mbps (sometimes i do get) but very rarely. But when i switch to 10 Half Duplex, it works fine.

But I have friends in the same colony and we want to share data and all. And my friends connection is working fine at 100Mbps (he is connected to the same switch). So since my connection is at 10 Mbps, i cant copy lots of stuff, I mean it gets real slow and all. So can anyone tell me how to make it work at 100.

Maybe some problem with the port, connect your lan cable to some other port on the switch and see if it makes any difference.

Maybe some issue with your local isp :huh: ... ask him to sort it out

If 100Mbps isnt working for u n 10Mbps is, then its got to do with the length of the cable hooking ur comp to the Switch. After a certain length, only 10Mbps will work, or so i was told when i was on Sify BB a while back. there's not much u cud do i guess.

Well that is true according to n/w standards. The higher speed you have, the shorter the interconnect has to be.

Well, thanks for the reply, but the switch is on 7th floor, my house is on 6th floor and my friends house (the one who is getting 100) is on 1st floor. So if it was because of the length of the wire, then i guess my friend is just Lucky.

BTW for the last 3 days it has been working on Auto negotiate 100mbps without much probs. Strange. Lets see till when it will continue.
