I am playing this game at 1280x1024 Ultra Settings, Dx9. The game is well optimized and smooth. Really no issues on my old hardware. The game is nice as well.

Oh my god, this feels like the good ol' Far Cry plus all the insanity and the survival part thrown in. Completed some 7 odd chapters and there're so many things to do in the islands! Looks like a good weekend ahead. :D

Started this today. Seems like a happy marriage of FC1 and FC2 :) Although my old 4770 is panting to run the game barely at medium or maybe its my X2 550 :|

Is it just me or does this one remind you a more about Farcry 2 than Farcry 1. I am not feeling that sense of urgency according to the storyline. There are lotta things to do. But already feels a lot like repetition to me. Go there kill this (man or animal). But maybe its just me.

Had a fantastic weekend and spent several hours playing the title. Completed 21 of 38 missions, did a few side missions, upgraded the inventory and unlocked several skills. :D

And the game has adopted several RPG elements this time. Our protagonist would be doing errands most of the time which includes fetch missions which might tend to get a bit repetitive and boring towards the later parts of the game, hunting animals for leather for the storage upgrades animals include non-harming herbivores such as goats, deers to predatory carnivores such as tigers, leopards, komodore dragons, bulls, dingos, sharks etc, disabling radio towers a la Assassin’s Creed which reveals a part of the map, claiming territories home to the native pirates, exploring caves and dungeons, finding relics and lost letters which unlocks special equipment, crafting equipment such as syringes (there are several syringes which improves health, stamina, combat), unlocking skills the design of which gets tattooed on Jason’s left arm etc. are some of the several things to be done in the game.

Fast travel between towns or captured territories are possible through the map. For moving around within the islands, there are several vehicles strewn around the map such as cars, off-roaders, buggies, jet skis, boats, rafts etc.

What bugged me the most was, the amount of bullets it takes to take down the animals is simply ridiculous! Head shots do not seem to have absolutely any effect either. Take Red Dead for instance, one clear shot at the forehead using a sniper and the Dead Eye skill (essentially slows down time) will kill the grizzly whereas it takes about 3 to 4 shots on the body. In this game however, no matter how many times you shoot the tiger or a leopard, it takes forever to bring the thing down! However, a weapon with a better damage stats can lessen the number of shots required.

The exploration part in the dungeons, caves and ship wrecks reminded me of Indiana Jones, Uncharted and Tomb Raider. Jason sets out in search of a lost artifact and has to proceed through a series of broken ledges with some platforming and beat the pirates standing guard, to finally acquire the piece of the puzzle. But the moment he takes it, everything begins to fall apart and he must hurry through a specific route which involves some QTE.

Anyways, all said and done, this game betters the previous titles especially Far Cry 2.

How is the AI?

Decent -->Good, not like most shooters these days.

Best is when NPC's react to each other randomly. Like this event, where I was driving down the road peacefully and spotted a few Pirates, decided to get the jump on them so got out of the jeep. Started walking towards them and start hearing gunfire, this was and is totally random, I picked a couple of guys off from distance and started closing when a lone chap starts running away from the carnage.

Pretty pleased with myself I leave all pretence of hiding and run over to the dead Pirates and am greeted by a cortege of Komodo Dragon's empty a full clip on one and bolt away as fast as possible. Arrive at my jeep and just as I start to get in a bobcat / jaguar decides that I am the perfect lunch. Another clip of ammo pumped into the beast to prevent me being turned into it's bacon.

I decide that was enough for a day's work so fast-travel to the closest liberated outpost.

With interactions as such, you are never to have a dull moment in the game. That I can guarantee. Cheerio!

Yeah decent but I guess we've seen better in the Crysis titles.

^^ Depends on which Crysis you compare the game with.

Personally Crysis 2's AI was not remarkable, Crysis 1 and Warhead were better but that was because of the situation you were placed in -- Open world.

But all the Crysis' in the world cannot boast of the random-NPC encounter system and it plays out pretty well in FARCRY3. For that itself, UBISOFT deserves credit.

I'd still reckon both the Crysis titles had better AI than Far Cry 2 and 3. Hell, the original Far Cry developed by Crytek had a better AI than the sequels it spawned.

Then again, Crysis 1 & 2 were never open world in the first place so those encounters you are referring to here, wouldn't happen. Besides, there are just 2 to 3 types of AI you would encounter in Far Cry 3 - the regular pirate guards, the occasional heavy guarding an artifact and the predatory animals. Not to mention for most parts, the AI is dumb. I was able to initiate successful chain takedowns (after the skill is unlocked i.e.) multiple times despite crouching in front of the enemy. It is pretty easy to get rid of the visibility bar by simply crouching in the foliage or behind an object such as the crate.

I respect your opinion though.

^ Same is an issue with Assassin's Creed 3 as well.

Some of the hiding spots are like what you described above. And in a sense it is good (for FARCRY 3), this is not Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Now I am on a guilt trip. UBISOFT, why did you kill Splinter Cell?

AI is dumb so are animals i just kept on throwing rock to direct the tiger to 200M to reach a outpost and let the tiger take over it.
