I was just wondering if the 64 bit patch for Far Cry actually makes a difference.

And do I need Win XP x64 for that?? Or will it work on standard Win XP Pro SP2??

My educated guess is that I need Win XP x64.... but just wanted to confirm....

If it runs on 32 bit windows, then will download the pactsh straightaway and see what the fuss is all abt :P

Thanks Bladey!!!

I had started downloading the smaller file from gamershell... but I cancelled that and downloading both from gamespot now.....

Will try that once it is done. I need to reinstall FC too.... :P

those /a commands create a unpack of the files to a folder you specify. You need to copy those over to the farcry game directory.

Detailed procedure

Code:
Installation of the Patch 1.32:

copy farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe to your C root drive

open a command prompt window

run cmd

type cd c:

and

type: farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe /a and press enter

follow the wizard and extract on a new folder C:\AMD64UPGRADE

The unpacked files should have this structure:

C:\AMD64UPGRADE\

PROGRAM FILES\

UBISOFT\

CRYTEK\

FAR CRY\

-BIN64

-FCDATA

-LANGUAGES

-LEVELS

-SHADERS

-SUPPORT

Now copy the folders

-FCDATA

-LANGUAGES

-LEVELS

-SHADERS

in your FC install folder overwriting and following the structure of the original directories.

For the Enhanced Content Patch:

copy farcry_amd64_ecu.exe to your C root drive

open a command prompt window

run cmd

type cd c:

and

type: farcry_amd64_ecu.exe /a and press enter

follow the wizard and extract on a new folder C:\AMD64ECU

The unpacked files should have this structure:

C:\AMD64ECU\

PROGRAM FILES\

UBISOFT\

CRYTEK\

FAR CRY\

-FCDATA

-LEVELS

-SUPPORT

Now copy the folders

-FCDATA

-LEVELS

overwriting the same folders in your FC install folder following the structure of the original directories.

Same problem......

I click on INSTALL after choosing the folder and after abt 5 mins, it gives the same error message

^^What install are you clicking? You just need to copy the stuff into ur farcry directory... i.e. whatever is there in the farcry directory of this thing must go into your existing farcry directory maintaining the exact same directory structure. You just have to copy manually. Clicking install wont work :P

Nope...... not doing that. I am going to c:\> and then typing this "farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe /a" and then hitting enter.

After this, I get an option to choose where to save the contents of the folder and I choose c:\AMD64UPGRADE. This folder has already been created in the C:\.

After I click on install, the whole Installation window seems to hang. After ab 4-5 mins, I get the error message

looks like ur processor is in habit of working in 32bit mode ...... it forgot all 64bit modes :P .......... bad joke i know :)

Hey, I get a similar problem. Instead of extracting the files, it goes and opens the installer. Then after a long time, asks me to give a location where the server image is to be installed (?). As shown below:

After that I get the same error as Nikhil. No files are extracted. And after that, even once the installer has exited, my computer is realllly slow, and crawls. Why, I don't know. CPU usage and memory usage are normal, so I think somehow it screws up some of the NT Object Manager tables... or some of those other executive components.

@KingKrool ----- EXACTLY!!!! The same thing even for me!!!!

Any help guys???

@saumil ---- There are 2 files to enable the 64 bit contents.

Will that single 400MB file work fine??

Yea, why would you need a 1gb update for some extra content and effects.
farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe and farcry_amd64_ecu.exe are the same files, the former for the retail version and the latter for the direct2download version.

You only need the first file if you're using xp64.
The same can work on xp32 as well, but since us noobs can't figure out how to manually extract the contents, just use the file I linked. It's pre-extracted and made into a xp32 compatible installer.

@saumil ----- I downloaded the file. Now what do I do?? If I try clicking on it, it says "File contaisn invalid data".

Same thing happens if I go to cmd and try to run it from there using the /a command
