after having received enough pms previously regarding this and one recently by a friend here, i decided to post this. i have noticed that stil many haven't known to preconfigure farcry properly..i get pms on how to install the patches and enable hdr etc...although enabling hdr is very easy and is a small command line variable change, i 'd like the same people to go through this small guide i composed now.
this is a short guide to enjoy all the graphics FarCry can sport
step1:
download FarCry 1.3 patch
download FarCry 1.31 patch
download FarCry 1.32 patch
step2:
download FarCry 64bit upgrade patch(don't dl FarCry 1.4 patch; causes problems on most systems and especially w/ the 64 -bit)
download FarcRY 64bit exclusive content upgrade patch(choose the correct version to download - us/uk....if u don't know what ur version is go for the uk)
step3:
instead of step2; step 3 is recommended. to use the 64-bit patches u have to run them on x64 based operating systems. so incase u don't want to take the trouble installing a 64-bit OS for 'full FarCry 64-bit glory' u might want to do this. actually, throught the game the 64-bit vs 32-bit ka difference in IQ is minimal/unnoticeable but is followed by a very small reduction in performance in 64-bit FarCry execution. so to save the hassle please try this mod; i haven't updated my self w/ the mod in that link...whether it has a custom cfg file or not. but it hardly matters.

step4:
install in this order:
farcry full game
FarCry 1.3 patch
FarCry 1.31 patch
FarCry 1.32 patch
FarCry 64bit upgrade patch (not if u use the 32-64 bit converter mod)
FarCry 64bit exclusive content upgrade patch (not if u use the 32-64 bit converter mod)
*for some reason the problem starts w/ not being able to install the first patch over the 'other versions' of farcry for example the megagames version. in that case i worked out the hack for it. illegitimate copies install some files differently. so incase the 1.3 doesn't, use this workaround:
1)open the run dialog box from the start menu
2)select the FarCryPatch_v1.3_t.exe patch file
3)click the blued out text. go to the end and after the quotes give a space and type "/a" (again w/o quotes).it should appear like this:
"E:\New Folder\setups bench games\FarCry with 64bit\FarCryPatch_v1.3_t.exe" /a
click OK
4)a location for extraction has top be specified. do it.
5)browse to the extracted location and go to xxx:\program files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\FCData\Shaders.pak
6)copy the file to ur farcry location..to this dir(FCData in farcry folder)
eg
E:\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\FCData
7)Now install teh 1.3t.exe patch followed by 1.31>1.32>64-32 bit conversion mod or the 2 64 patches themselves(either of the 2); it checks for the scripts .pak file and compares. since it is a perfect match, no problemo
step5:
run the game. set the options to very high + ultra high for water. qui t teh game
goto main dir. find system.cfg. select open w/ notepad. find and set
r_Texture_Anisotropic_Level = "16"
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = "100"
r_HDrRendering = "2" or "7" (7 for a more haloed effect at times + different drawing of dynamic lightning)
Ps - if the mod has a .cfg file that is being put into the main folder after instal, then i guess step5 can be skipped
step6:
now go get owned by mutants
step7:
for hdr + aa functionality (traditional AA!)
Farcry Pre-Release HDR + AA patch download from Guru3D.com
however it only seems to work on ati cards properly
try experimenting w/ gamm correction on/off + transperency aa on/off w/ this patch if at all u wish to try it.
ps - it often corrupts ur bin32/fcdata folder ...u might need to reinstall
other notes:
patch 1.2 is the minimal requirement for enabling hdr;
the 64-bit patches are really good for candy - but one can skip em' and go just enable hdr.
vegetation_sprites_dist.... cvar does away w/ the distant trees/vegetation from transforming into sprites or 'fakes' that don't look good due to reduced polygons
