Looking for recommended 4GB / 8GB USB Flash Drives with good performance and good value.

The ones I know of are the Corsair Voyager / Mini - not sure which one's the best bet out of them though.

Reason for the (relatively) small 4 to 8GB capacities are since I'll only be using them as boot disks / install disks and for copying the occasional odd file.

Thanks :)

Since you're going to use them only for boot disks, you need good reading speeds, isn't it? You can try the cruzer micro from sandisk. You'll be getting 10-12mb/s reading speed.

Mediahome recently started a GO for high speed range of Transcend. But I think that minimum capacity offered in that range was 16 or 32gb.

Corsair Voyager GTR or GT series pendrive or the best is Kingston's HyperMAx series, all depends on your budget. I find that a standard Corsair Voyager 16 GB (I own one) gives pretty good read speeds <upto 30 MB/s in some cases> and above average write speeds <15 ~ 18 MB/s>. For best value go for Cosair Flash Voyager <standard> and for ultimate speed Kingston's HyperMax series <they have USB 3.0 on the latest ones>.

Kingston Technology Company - Flash Memory - HyperX MAX 3.0

Hope this helps.

Go for corsair voyager GT, dont get that cheap, slow sandisk pen drives which have write speeds of 4-5 MB/s.

I usually stick to Sandisk, but the later Cruzer micros aren't performing well I hear.

The verbatim drives are blazingly fast for r/w

Any idea which specific models these are?

IIRC those were SD cards.

The Voyager GT range starts from 16GB onwards. I don't really need that much space.

Where can I source these Hypermax drives?

Transcend & Kingston have introduced USB 3.0 pen drives recently... Yet to see them offered from our dealers..

Yes I remember seeing a news article about these Transcends. The claimed read/write speeds looked pretty impressive, although no clue about the pricing. They might end up charging a hefty premium for that USB 3.0 tag! :(

CORSAIR FV and PNY slim micro attache drives have read speed 25-30mb/s range. write speeds are above 6

Any idea where the PNY drives are available from?

Thanks again for all the replies! :)

Are you confusing yourself with the Cruzer blade? I'm saying about the Cruzer Micro U3. If you can do a search in Ritchie street, you may get those old stocks :) But of course, many of the people suggested Corsair, you can go for that too. :)

Pleasure to reply/answer to the Mod ;)

earlier pny driver were imported by Fortune Marketing but they now import PNY made HP drives which comes with 2yr warranty

OCZ ATV drives reach upto 35MBps read and 16-18 MBps write speeds.
Comes with lifetime warranty and very much comparable to corsair gt/gtr drives.

^

Saw the Corsair Voyager GT at Golccha Computers in Bangalore ~ 1800 <from 2200>, godly read speeds (~700 MB/s) but write speeds still sub-standard (13 - 15 MB/s).

A USB 3.0 piece bruv, :) coupled with a compatible Sandy-Bridge set-up, revised write speeds are (~ 22 -- 30 MB/s).

^ still usb 3.0 can't give more than 500 MB/s (which is the max bandwidth of usb 3.0, practically you will always get lower speeds), you should check your source again and report back.
