I've got a Fat *ahem* ps2 which was bought from Malaysia, Its recently developed some lens problem and doesn't read discs well. Was thinking of installing linux on it , but is it worth the trouble  . Is there anyone who has been able to run linux on it and use it as a download rig ? ..Also if i sell it in it's current non working (bad lens) state with a memory card and controller how much should i expect ? As of now i just use it to stash away siggy's in the expansion bay at teh back..! :ashamed:

There is a modchip that adds a Harddisk to it. Install it, then you can play backe-up games/Movies off the HDD.

Or get a new lens for about 1k.

^^ Thanks !, As for the hdd will my old seagate 80gb IDE hdd work ?

Yeah, it'll work. The modchip is a bit more expensive than the normally available mod-chips. Ask around, and bargain a bit saying that you have an old HDD you want to use. Some people claim it is 1.5k and some say 3-4k. So just find out in a few places.

There's too much cost involved in the linux setup as i would also need to buy a ethernet adaptor without which my hdd wouldn't work ..... . Expect to see this in the market section real soon... :'( It served me well for 2 years *sigh* good times we've had.
