waaaaaah.....

I had a FDD, havent used it since 6 months...plugged it in, BIOS showed Floppy disks fail....hmmm...changed the cable...no effect...

got a new FDD...still same prob :mad:

actually, it gets detected in windows. when i put a floppy n double click on the icon, it shows no FDD inserted..

I used to get something like...a "command generated by the FDD is not recognised by the Controller" when i opened the FDD thru windows before..so never used it for 6 months.....

is it the mobo??? i'll be very delighterd to send this POS for replacement :p

PS : I have my projs now, so a FDD is a must..no highway options :(

nope..workin in dos 6.22...no can do :(

BTW, temme a good C++ compiler thingy..just like Turbo C, editor, compiler, all in one. heard TC is not a good option....

Try Borland C++ or Visual C++[Microsoft Visual Studio].

Do u req FDD for ur proj or just save ur proj files.
Get a flash drive 256MB if its just to store files.

will try borland C++...

DOS 6.22, cant use USB devices. shit P4 runnin on DOS. bah....else wud have bought a drive casing instead of a pen drive :p

lol...forget abt pendrives...we have to logon to some network thingy...totally nooo chance of having USB. forget it..

now pls gimme tips on the FDD..:p

Whenever I had a problem with a floppy drive I opened the top (slides open - no screws) and using a tape head cleaning solution or Isopropyl Alcohol I wipe the drives heads - always some rust looking gunk comes off the drive - even tho the drive may not have been used much. Use a lint free cloth.

There are USB mass storage drivers for DOS.
If u do have a flash drive then refer the following links for a solution.

Also u cud run Flash drives , memcard readers , usb zip & cd & hdd drives

Just go throught these links

the prob isnt with the FDD...its with the mobo i think..same prob occurs even if i use a new FDD :mad:

@quad : i'll chk it out, tnx

@KK : Yep, we're using that niovell netware thingy at our labs...

I don't think you can run Borland C++ on DOS...

what is your project btw, and do you need C++ or C (you said C++, but all too often these terms are just used interchangeably in Indian colleges). And if C++, are you going to use exceptions, templates, vectors, maps etc (3rd version of C++ standard - these features are not available in TC).

ALSO:

Roundabout way:

Copy from ur comp on to CD

Copy frm CD on to sucky DOS comp at college

Copy frm sucky DOS comp at college to floppy

Copy frm floppy to USB or mail or whatever on some 3rd comp which has a working FDD and runs windows..
