A good friend of mine came to my place just for the heck of it. He had a p910i- the same phone my mom has. He said ever since he went for replacement at accel frontline who are nationwide service centre for Sony ericsson at saki naka Mumbai, he has "weird" problems and accel frontline denied screwing with the phone. When I happened to have a word with accel frontline guys, they finally revealed that they replaced the motherboard. Other than the fact that they have lied saying that they just did a firmware update, I found that the IMEI number from the bill and from the phone via *#06# and from the imei number mentioned on the box were completly different- 3 completly different IMEI numbers- the box and the bill was 1, second was from *#06# and 3rd was on the back of the phone where the battery is kept in. I am not sure if IMEI security law has been implemented or not and neither I am sure howw it works, but accel frontline failed to give a complete service with a proper documentation. Accel guys have also confirmed that its the IMEI usually has the warranty staus stored. My friend said he will take care of accel frontline from there which according to accel claimed they will sort it out. Out of curiosity I spoke to couple of people who got their SE phones replaced and unknowingly suffered the same consequences. Accel frontline does replacement for seagate and I think for kingston as well. I am pretty sure that if accel frontline does any hardware replacement which has IMEI code embedded on it, either they need to make sure the new mobo had the old IMEI number or replace everything including the package and give proper documentation since the imei number is on the mobo, back of the phone, bill and on the box.

Just as a head's up from my end- prevention is better than cure. When you give your cellphone for replacement, make an effort to check if the IMEI number is the same. If not, the service centre needs to give proper documentations in regards to that.

It should be at the max 2 IMEI no.s in any case which should be like

a) Same IMEI no. on phone back and the box / the bill.

b) Another IMEI no. of replaced PBA in your phone.

Now according to company policy it should be done like removing the Swapped PBA's IMEI no. with 0000000000 with which later on at time of any service or resale one can easily recognize it as a swapped PBA.

Don't panic just tell Accel people to wipe out the IMEI no. from PBA which can be done easily by a software flash.

However, according to me the concern area is to find out how come IMEI no on box and Set's back are different ?? Did you opened box in-front of you only at the time of purchasing the handset ??

I have had a board replaced on me by them (SE T105), they were decent about it. The receipt I got mentioned the new IMEI I believe.

Have serviced a couple of SE phones from there. Always got decent service, but this is Pune, so might vary place to place :)

+ They replace motherboards ONLY for phones under warranty, else ur screwed if the board goes. Had a 850i that went boom (was grey market). They said board issue but they wouldnt provide a separate board even on offering to pay for it :(
