I believe this is possible only with ASUS P5 series or higher boards, not sure about others. I've tried this on my P5GDC Deluxe and it dropped load temps by 12º. Anyway, here are the steps:

- Go to BIOS > Power > Hardware Monitor

- If CPU Q-Fan Control is not enabled, [Enable] it

- Once enabled, a bunch of options appear; lower the CPU Target Temperature (lowest is either 51 or 54)

Here's an explanation for this setting I found in the P5GDC manual:

CPU Target Temperature: Allows you to set the CPU temperature threshold when the CPU fan speed is increased to lower the CPU temperature. The configuration options for this item depend on the recommended Intel Fan Speed Control (FSC) temperature settings. The Intel FSC provides target temperature options at ±15% with 3º interval.

Based on what I read in another forum, this target temperature setting is the max amount of heat the cpu can generate before the fan goes faster :)

Hope this helps others with P4's and ASUS boards.

almost all motherboards support this kinda speed control ..... but i always like controlling them manually ..... :D
