File sharing sites blocked by department of telecom!

I get the following message when visiting Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire

This site has been blocked as per instructions from Department of Telecom (DOT) .

Mediafire is one of best file sharing site which gives excellent speeds, and supports parallel downloads and has no waiting times. Mediafire also happens to have heck of a lot of royalty free carnatic music from the 60's. Checking the web I see that some users are fearing that many other sites will be blocked soon. Hopefully the DOT will come to its senses soon!

[/COLOR]Also rapidshare, depositfiles seems to be blocked. However only the main site link seems to be blocked, as opening a nested link works.

Any ways i'll repost what i said.

Mediafire, depositfiles, rapidshare are blocked.

This site has been blocked as per instructions from Department of Telecom (DOT) .

is the error i get.

The IP address 115.248.224.97 is of RCom.

It is not a DNS block as switched to google DNS. no change!

Tried accessing sites thru VPN, worked. So blocking is being done in India definately.

Also asked 2 friends to try the sites, one using broadband connection similar to mine, got the same problem. The other one using mobile net, did not get the error. Go figure.

As Per News TRAI And Telecom Company's Are Banning This To Prevent Piracy And PORN In India And TRAI And Telecom Company's Are Getting Huge Money From The Movie Etc Company's To Block File Hosting Sites

Looks very unlikely that dot is doing this.

I think its more of ISP level stuff and them being dictated by media copyrights protection groups.

As of now hotfile is the only cyberlocker i know that has not been blocked.

Rapidshare, Fileserve, Filesonic, Wupload, Megaupload, Mediafire, and Depositfiles are all opening. What gives? :S
