Hello folks

Its time i got my own camera, I really have no inkling as to which camera to get and even what features to look for.

Budget: Strictly <10k

Brand : Doesnt matter

Pixel : No idea (but more is better right?)

Usage : Taking baby steps into photography and a lot of family photos (to justify why im getting it)

I would be getting by tomorrow at the maximum and would really appreciate any insight into this.

P.S And yeah i did search for thread with similar content but all of them discuss about cameras released in 2009 or early 2010 would like to get a feel of whats newer.

Thanks.

A Sony W350 should fit in your budget. It is a compact point and shoot, with plenty of nifty features, and with a decent image quality. A Canon SX120IS is another good compact zoom cam with good image quality, but it might overshoot your budget by a small margin.

Guys, this is offtopic for this thread, but don't you think as numbers of "Suggest Me a Camera Within $$$" comes up now and then, we should have a sticky thread as PC Buying Guide??

I know there is already http://www.techenclave.com/general-portables/all-newbie-starter-entry-level-dslr-151815.html but I'd say this is not feasible, as buyer needs to go through the whole thread to find what he wants.

Can't we just have a separate thread suggesting cameras by price and specification both?? Like P&S, SLR, DSLR etc??

^^ Would be a great thing to do.

@logistopath, you sure about the Sx120is IQ mate? the A3100is seems to have better IQ from the reviews and samples. And do i really need 10x zoom to learn photography?

Check some reviews for the SX120IS. The image quality is very good. Canon PowerShot SX120 IS Review

The A3100IS has only different scene modes and very little control over anything in the cam. The SX120IS provides a fully manual mode and good zoom. If you want to experiment a little with the settings, the SX120IS is the way to go.
