I have an old Dell Inspiron 1525 which has the infamous hinge problem. One of the hinges came off and the resulting pressure broke the bezel. The laptop itself is functioning fine though the battery is shot.

I have since moved to an Asus K53M-X010D but would like to use the Dell as a music PC and for experimenting with some s/w. I called Dell but they said they no longer have spares for my model.

Is there a way I can fix it aftermarket? Can you please point me to a place in Bangalore I can try? (Kindly be a bit more specific than SP Road :p)

TIA

Post pics, the hinge might be available in the market since you are lucky to have a very popular laptop, it might cost you ~ 1500-2000 bucks. There are both chinese hinges and original parts. Get it repaired from a experienced technician, it's a bit tough to do it yourself.

Thanks bro! Will take some pictures tonight and post. Even the bezel has broken off...hope I can get that as well.

I replaced the hinge of my laptop recently, just ordered replacement hinges from eBay US and switched it myself. Not that difficult, and disassembly guides of almost all laptops are available online. It cost me just Rs 500 for the hinges.

So just check eBay US for the parts compatible with your laptop and see if they are cheaper. You can also try Gemwon, reliable site! :)

Sorry...camera trouble led to the delay. Below are a few pics of the broken hinge and bezel, hopefully it'd give you the idea of the extend of damage...

I am on the lookout for the same, however, m laptop is a Compaq C702TU model. In the meantime, I have disassembled the laptop and kept the screen seperately. Currently using the laptop as a download rig, controlling it via RPD/Teamviewer/uTorrent Remote.

Thanks ryanrulez4ever...the bezel and top cover should take care of the problem?

I called Dell, they said they'd charge 5K + 750 to fix it up. Should I go with them? Or can I get it reliably done from aftermarket? How about DIY? Can I get the parts from somewhere?

Too may Qs :(

Spoke to Dell support, they said they'd replace the Bezel, Back Cover and the Hinge for 5K and they'd do it onsite. So said "What the heck!" and went with them...

Thanks for all your advice :hail:
