Flight travel with babies

Guys any tips/precautions while travelling with babies? I will be travelling with my sister who has 1.8 yrs and 2 months old baby next week. I am also unable to find if airlines allow baby formula to be brought onboard. We have a 3 hour stop over and need a way to feed the baby in between.

baby formulas are allowed. keep it in a clear plastic bag for easy inspection. you may be asked to eat/drink it in front of flight security to ensure what you are carrying is indeed safe. check the airline website for any any restrictions on the quantity.

and you may ask the travel desk for seats with child trays.

this is applicable for international travel and i've been subjected to it each time i travelled after 9/11: usually, maximum 100ml of fluid/gel is allowed in carry-on baggage. so, combined quantity of any hair gel, hair oil, toothpaste etc can't exceed 100 ml.

international airlines follow these guidelines strictly:
http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/3-1-1-carry-ons
https://www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions

domestic airlines may relax certain guidelines, esp for people with little children.

International or Domestic?

Anyways the formula and all.. Don't carry it in liters. They will throw it away. Just take the bare minimum qty required, like in 100ml or so. and keep it in see through zip lock bag outside. So that you can show them before boarding itself. They will allow the stroller till the aircraft, most prolly valet or attendant will take it from you there and keep it somewhere else and return to you once you landed.

Yep. Traveling from Guwahati to Bangalore. No direct flights. Stop at Kolkatta for a 4hr period. Normally there used to a hop flight but that seem to be removed.

Guwahati to Bangalore - is via Kolkata. Jet provides bassinet for babies less than 1 year old. Note: you need to buy a separate ticket for infants. We have not found any other airline in India which offers bassinet for domestic travel. It is on first come first serve basis, best to arrive at the airport 3 hours in advance. You cannot web check-in with Infant tickets.
If you need to choose any other airline, stick to Indigo.

We have travelled 3 trips between my kids age of 3 months to 6 months using Jet as well as Indigo.

Jet konnect flights may not have bassinets, so check before you book.

P.S. Only working solution for pressure change is - feed the infant during takeoff and landing.

I am travelling via Jet konnect. I spent couple of hours on hold last week to check about the bassinets. Now the plan is to check at the airport itself by arriving 2-3 hrs early.BTW how did you manage the feeding mid way in Kolkata? Carrying formula in the cabin baggage?

Just update for guys who might plan their future travels - I finally got in touch with Jet Konnect people after 45 minutes wait. Jet Konnect doesn't have bassinets. They say its only provided for international travels. As for formula, the call centre person kept saying you can carry enough formula for your journey - the question being what is enough to pass through security check - got no reply on that. So its a task which needs to be done after reaching the airport.

Dude.... Take the powder...
Get the hotwater after u board the flight (ask the airhostess for the same).
There is no restriction in carrying the formiula... My wife carried half a KG of it as my kid really hogs onto it. Airhostess and staff were very very helpful.

I am also from Assam and stay in blore so I can understand ur pain. Ur kid would need around 3 feeds of 120ml during ur travel time...

Domestic.
Problem is I have a 4 hr stopover. So how to get the formula during that period.

So basically you carried the whole half kg pack of Lactogen? my sister has two kids - 2 mths old 1.8yrs old - both of them require milk. So I guess 1 whole kg pack will be required.

Yes...My wife carried the 500 Gm pack of Nanpro. For 2 kids also...u don't require more than 500Gms.
With 15kg allowance...u need to reduce ur weight as much as u can.

Also, call up the airline customer care and have a porter (helper) booked; they will update the details in the PNR number so u won't have last minute surprises of no helper available, rush, etc.
From the moment u enter the airport in Assam to the moment u take the taxi in blore...u will always have a helper taking ur wife's luggage (for free)

[DOUBLEPOST=1388497407][/DOUBLEPOST]One more very very important tip....u need to feed ur baby while landing and take off. This is very very important and avoids pressure build up in the ears of the kid.
