I have been looking for a home flour mill since last few years. Where in bangalore can you find one.

Could you please share, where in bangalore you bought it from?Which brand? What price?A one line review please?

Thanks and Regards,

Mohit

Natraj retails between 10k to 15k depending upon the capacity and output power.

I have heard from some family friends in gandhinagar that Natraj is pretty good brand.

I have been using Elite for a loooooooooong time now.

Happily servicing my family.

Elite is product of Rajkot, Gujarat and they were the first one to come out with stone less design flour mills.

Now a days as we have never encountered any problems dont know about the present market scenario but the 3 brands you mentioned are good, and will do good service.

Look around your local market and try to find some family who uses it for long time, ask them about any difficulties, because if you make wrong choice, females in family will keep cursing every time they use the machine.

What are the savings per use (%) if you get a mill ?

Say you have a kilo of wheat and turn that into flour vs buying it readymade in the market. I get chakki atta readymade for Rs.22/kilo. This is the only wheat i usually get, maybe there are more expensive flour varieties where the savings could be higher.

How long does the mill take to pay for itself ?

Its not the cost factor dude.

As per my understanding, wheat flour loses its "good" properties within 2-3 days of being grounded. So, to get max benefit of wheat flour, it should not be more than 3 days old. With commercial atta chakis around us, how are we going to achieve that?

As for buying packed wheat flour, it is a well known fact that they take out the fiberous outer part of the wheat and that is sold separately. So this wheat flour has fiber also missing.

Now, how would you put a price for good health?

Could you expand on these "good" properties ?

One thing is for sure and that is freshness and probably taste is better, whether you can tell the difference I leave to those more experienced to comment on.

All fibre does is make you go :)

Your stomach unlike a cow cannot digest it. If you eat fuits & vegetables you will have more than enough fibre.

Sadly not one of those links references any studies whatsoever. One of them talks about maida well, i'm banned from getting it even tho I think it tastes better.

^ I am not sure about the medical studies w.r.t the loss of good properties of wheat flour over a period of time.

May be someone with medical background can help us here ( Guess it will be very tough to find someone with those credentials on this forum :) )

Its just the personal choice for people. Some like it freshly ground, some are happy with once in 2 month's grinding, others are happy with packed stuff.

This would require some searching. You want to be wary about the claims tho, unless they link to some credible studies.

The biggest advantages i can see is it will be fresh, better texture when used, probably tastes better and no problem with adulteration vice the cost + convenience of getting it readmade.

There is no difference between once in two months grinding and readymade, might as well get the latter.

Calorie wise i don't think there is much difference otherwise you would feel hungry much sooner with readmade compared to freshly ground.

get it done for 8rs for 5kg..why spend 10k?

even at 2rs a kg, it'l take 5000kg of wheat to payback the cost..
Well u are ignoring the transportation cost and the risk of adulteration.

on the other hand flour mill will use electricity so it adds to the cost.

We have a home flour mill for our hostle(don't know the price and brand) we have to ground wheat every 2-3 days as there are about 40 guys, so transportation is the major reason for buying the flour mill.

+ u can also ground the spices at home and avoid adulteration.

Old flour will not loose its nutritive value unless it gets wet / fermented / infested which happens only if there is extremely poor keeping utensils.

The benefits of home flour mill are :
Less traveling
Surity of pure and fresh (No adulteration specially rampant at the round the corner flour mills)
You know you are eating the same thing which you originally paid for. (specially people choosing better tasting varieties of grains)

The ready made available attas are good also, but cost factor becomes a for a large family of more than 5, also you have to tackle the problem of rampant counterfeiting.

Like AC / Fridge / Tv the cost return will not happen in case of Flour mills unless there is gigantic joint families like in TV serials. Its just a question of convenience and self satisfaction.
