Hi,

I have some 400 GB Data on USB Maxtor that I intend to keep Password Protected regardless of the PC's where it is accessed.

Which utility can help me do that ?
Few weeks back, this was being discussed in some thread but i am unable to find it now.

Also I wish to lock that folder from unauthorised deleting too.

At the moment Universal Shield is working for me with Folders on my OS Drive. I am just looking for standalone app..

Thanx..

truecrypt FTW :ohyeah: Will create a partition inside your drive where you can place all your stuff in encrypted form. Enter the password, and voila, the partition is accessible :) On ALL systems :)

Yup tc is the way to go!

Tried TC and one Flycryptor too..

Both are decent but only one problem.. The container that is created by TC can be deleted by anyone without any authorisation and that case the protected data is surely lost, isnt it..

How can i avoid that?

Also i intend to protect 400 GB of data and TC needs free space of that much size to create a container. Now how am i gonna free 400 GB :o

Err that holds true for data in ANY format that you lend out to people. If they have access to your hard disk drive, they can delete all the data on it regardless of what permissions you set on them. Even if you use some form of protection (maybe there is one, don't know) that protects the data from deletion by say asking for a password as soon as you connect the USB drive, one could always access the device in raw mode and overwrite all the data in it (it can be done in linux atleast).

I don't think there is any option other than creating a TC container that would really work for you. Encrypted the entire disk won't work because you'll need TC on every host computer to mount it. The best you can do is create a TC container and hide it by changing it the file attributes to hidden and system. Also ensure that you set up a TrueCrypt traveler disk on your USB drive so that you can run truecrypt on any computer (would require admin privileges, though).

Oh hmm...

Ok how about bypassing that 400 GB thing.. TC needs that much free space to create the container..?

Is there any other alternative..

Also will it be safe to risk my 400 GB with TC..?
