Lately i am facing some issues. After i start my computer and go to any folder to copy a file by pressing Ctrl-C or even right click copy, computer freezes. I have enter the task manager and end task that folder application and in some cases end the explorer.exe process and restart another one to come back to normal.
Now this happens only in the first few minutes after the laptop is started and not later. Any particular reason ??

could be bad sectors on hdd or hdd dying.

can be some corrupt system files.

OR check the mode of hdd in device manager - is it in UDMA mode or not.

^^ It is happening on local HDD as well as external HDD. It even happens on a connected MP4 player's flash memory.

then check for corrupted system files.

something like this happened to me twice - first time hdd failed and second time psu failed.

hope this is not happening on your laptop?

Check for rootkits.

Rootkits, Virus etc affecting the laptop is almost impossible as this is company laptop and with being connected to company network in office hours, it has latest AV signatures and all. Also this AV would disable all sorts of access to the laptop of it finds some virus etc.

Any definite way to check that and even fix them assuming system files have gone for a toss ??

run hijackthis and post the log. most likely its the explorer extension which has gone rogue.

is that u mean crashing means blue screen bsod.... if so, post the minidump. present at c:\WINDOWS\Minidump

No, there is no BSOD just that the mouse pointer changes to hour glass and things like changing windows (using Alt - Tab) don't respond.
