Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marks Parle 'Mango Bite' unsafe

^^ trolls :P

Yes It was my favourite candy too ! Used to be a time when i used to have atleast 1-2 a day .!

They seized candy worth 60 Lakhs !!!!!

now Thats a lotta candy ;)

Finally my parents will believe me. Years ago, when we went to visit hardwar,Kedrnath etc, I ate one "mango bite" and fell sick. I had diarrhea but nobody believed me that it was from "mango bite". :(

There is FDA in India :O
Cadbury, Nestle, Johnson baby products, Sunfeast cream biscuits, Kellogs, Dynamix(Britannia) and I can name many more big names which the FDA has pulled for misleading advt/ products in the last 2-3 years.
Sadly they are very short on resources and most of the time is consumed in checking adulteration of milk/ khawa(Milk byproduct used to make sweets), ghee and edible oils.
Also they are constantly under pressure from state ministers to complete 'targets'

They may not be so much in focus but they do an excellent job in the given resources.
In Pune they have a very shabby office in Guruwar peth and a state of art lab in Hadapsar.

There is and a quite active one , a ex-classmate's dad used to work in the dept . Very much active but only to profit for themselves rather than us , this my classmate used to tell me .

No doubt there is a lot of malai in this job but the risk is equal. Confronting and raiding milk and food adulteration mafia that too with less or many times no police backup.
Also ministers involved in pressurizing tactics and asking huge sums for transfers are also the reasons for such corruption.
Just for a rough comparision. The salary of a callcenter fresher is more than a Food Inspector :)
I have some close acquaintances working in the FDA so can give you very precise details.

When will the government learn ? Doh !
IMO, Food - Health regulatory and Security (Police, Army, Navy, Air-Force) personnels should be given enough incentive not to cross over to the dark side. Any play with either of those things and it's a :bye: to your health or freedom.

Agreed to every word .
It sad nowadays to live in fear of even the basic requirement for a human being . Even food is not outside the boundaries of corruption .
Very bad for the country as a whole .

Parle Products today said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked it to recall the stocks of its popular candy 'Parle Kacha Mango Bite' and not the 'Mango Bite'.

I am sure to get some serious flak from other members for saying this.
I was reading your post with interest until I got to the salary part. Call center vs Food inspector? hmmm
Let me preempt what I am going to say with this: Hats off to government employees (who even with bribes) at least do their work. :)

I find many government employees using that as a stick to beat everyone who question their ethics/corruption. "Kya sir, aap toh IT waale accha kamate hain 1k mein kya jayega?" Doesn't matter how many times I hear it, every time my reaction is WTF!!! It seems as if I am a walking ATM. And I always end up asking "Sir, did u not know the safety risks or idiotic salary of a government employee before you joined? Or is it after joining you realized your salary was worse than a call centre fresher? Best of it all, call centers have openings every damn day, they need more and more people. You are more than welcome to join the call center brigade. Do remember, they require performances ie 2 toilet breaks in 8 hr span, 20-30 calls an hour needs to be answered. You wont get paid for doing nothing or complaining how the company is exploiting you/your salary is bad than an IT guy." :)

My cousin who was close to me used to work at IRCTC recently. She was really disillusioned by the way government employees worked. Every damn person was a thief. Even she was approached to sell some stuff and take bribe money. That too when she was earning less than a fresher's salary. Though like a true government employee she did complain to me that I somehow earned a 40k salary sitting in AC room doing nothing.
I got her a fresher IT job. Now she complains how much work she needs to do, how performance oriented work culture is there etc.

Frankly government salaries and facilities are a concern. But instead of trying with the government, you cant really say it sucks bad that you earn what a call center fresher does. (poor guy what did he do to deserve such a comparison).

Although its way OT, One of my friend "quit" his IT job and joined a "Govt" job, his reasons -
1. Long Term Stability : Every 2 years, there is a scare - Recession. Even though you work for Service companies/"Stable" product companies. It still gets to you. There is always a constant niggling in your mind! Planning ahead for life? you never know when you might be laid off!
2. Appraisals : Absolutely no issues in Govt. jobs. You do what you feel like!
3. No overtimes. No night shifts. No Late night calls.

There are cons too, but he said Pros out weighed the cons.
