UuHH...Is it possible to run a Australian 7800gtx 512 mb on a compaq presario desktop:huh: ?

By the Way how much does it cost in delhi?

You might need to change the powersupply in that compaq presario. Also make sure that the machine has a pci express board. The 7900GTX is around 35,000 rupees i think.

A 7800GTX 512MB is very rare to find in the markets. Rashi Peripherals was quoting something around ~ 40K for these cards. The updated 7900GTX 512MB as Chaos mentioned would be a better choice - as its cheaper and should be more easily available.

More details like what Compaq Presario Desktop that is, will help.

^ Choas the presario is INDIAN - basically he is asking if Australian 7800 GTX would work on Indian presario :)

______________

targetblimp, If you have a PCI Express slot in your Presario Desktop then any 7800 GTX or any PCI Express for that matter would work - there are no Desi's or Videshi's when it comes to GPU ;)

Cost of 7800 GTX according to a chennai pricelist is around 30k.

Edit : As, Eddy said more details on your presario's m/c needed.

Well yeah obvouisly, it isn't that they are region locked or something :P

You probably have to change the PSU and check for a PCIe slot as Chaos and Eddy mentioned :)

branded pc's are usually underpowered in the psu area..so as chaos suggested it would be wise to upgrade the psu, once u do that and if the board has a pcie slot your good to go

gee..yeah i do have a pci-e slot on my motherboard.

and it looks like i have a crappy ATX 250w SMPS,:( so i'll ve to replace it to. Plus i should go for a gig of RAM with the card.

speaking About power supply doesn't AC/DC current make any difference?

Yep they do. DC currents, i.e. the current ratings that your PSU has on the output 12v, 5v, 3.3v lines are important and you should keep this in mind when choosing your PSU. These current ratings are a much better indication of a PSU's capacity over the traditional 'wattage' rating of a PSU. However even the current ratings tends to be exaggerated in cheaper PSU's, so you should keep that in mind when choosing as well.

In current/modern PC's , the current supplied on the 12v rail has a stronger influence on choosing a PSU.. since a vast majority of hardware components like - CPU, Optical/Hard Disk Drives, Graphics cards, Fans run off the 12v line.

What kind of a budget do you have for your PSU?

Also make sure the card can fit in your cabby's. Compaq presario's have one of the worst cabinet designs along with Lenovo.

OT : Why did you buy a Compaq anyways ;)

^^Hehe yea, why did u? Also keep in mind, adding a new psu and graphics card by yourself will void your warranty.

i didnt.one day i just walked in my room and found it there.
my dad bought it.:crash:

as for the budget its around 1.5k,ive to save for the 700gtx.

I'd suggest pushing that budget to atleast 2.2k and getting a Antec Smart Power 2.0 400W.

Do try and post a picture of that cabinet, so we can advise you on whether the airflow will be enough.
